CRUK PhD Studentships at Cancer Research UK, Manchester Institute, 2015
Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Manchester Institute is inviting applications for PhD studentships available to students from within the UK, EU and overseas. Cancer Research UK studentships are of 4 years and include stipend and full University tuition fees (home or overseas) for the duration. Projects are typically conducted within a single research group, although many students find themselves interacting and collaborating with more than one group as their project matures. Groups in which studentships are held are allocated an appropriate level of funding to ensure the project is adequately supported. The application deadline is 20 November 2014.
Study Subject(s): Research at the CRUK Manchester Institute spans the whole spectrum of cancer research, from programmes investigating the molecular and cellular basis of cancer, to those focused on translational research and the development of novel therapeutic approaches. The 2015 projects are as follows: Control of malignant progression by the Rac activator and epithelial polarity determinant Tiam1,Target identification and validation for novel cancer drug discovery, Epigenetic aspects of acute myeloid leukaemia, Mechanisms of response and resistance to targeted therapies, Unravelling prostate tumours aggressiveness, Noncoding RNA regulators of gene expression in individual tumour cells, Investigating the emerging new role of the transcription factor RUNX1 in solid tumours, Identification of genetic drivers of tumour stroma activation and TKR-modulated microRNAs and chemotherapy resistance.

-Cancer Research invites talented and motivated students or graduates to apply for PhD programme. Applications are invited from recent graduates or final year undergraduates who have, or expect to obtain, a first upper second class honours degree or equivalent from any recognized University worldwide.
-Previous laboratory research experience is not a requirement for acceptance to the PhD programme, however, such experience will clearly give a realistic insight into academic research.
-Applicant must be able to satisfy the English Language requirements for Graduate Study of University of Manchester if English is not your first language. IELTS is not a requirement for making an application, but if you are successful in gaining a studentship, you will be required to take the IELTS examination before you will be allowed to register with the University.
