MCM301 Assignment#02 Solution By ihteram

Assignment No. 02
Semester: Spring 2017
MCM301

Question: 1
Considering the chronological pattern of writing body of a speech, write three paragraphson the topic “History of Multan”.
Solution:
Multan History:
Four rare things Multan abounds Heat, Saints, Dust and Burial Grounds
(Persian poet describes the primordial environment of the historic city of Multan)

Multan is a city in the Punjab Province of Pakistan, and capital of Multan District. It is located in the southern part of the province, and is steeped in history. It has a population of over 3.8 million (according to 1998 census), making it the sixth largest city in Pakistan. It is built just east of the Chenab River, more or less in the geographic center of the country, and about 966 km from Karachi.

Multan is known as the 'City of Pairs and Shrines', and is a prosperous city of bazaars, mosques, shrines and superbly designed tombs. The Multan International Airport connects to flights to major cities in Pakistan and to cities in the Persian Gulf. The city's industries include metalworking, flour, sugar, and oil milling, and the manufacture of textiles, fertilizer, soap, and glass. Multan is also known for its handicrafts, especially pottery and enamel work.

One of the subcontinent's oldest cities, Multan derives its name from an idol in the temple of the sun god, a shrine of the pre-Muslim period. The city was conquered (c.326 BC) by Alexander the Great, visited (AD 641) by the Chinese Buddhist scholar Hsüan-tsang, taken (8th cent.) by the Arabs, and captured by Muslim Turkish conqueror Mahmud of Ghazna in 1005 and by Timor in 1398. In the 16th and 17th century, Multan enjoyed peace under the early Mughal emperors.

In 1818 the city was seized by Ranjit Singh, leader of the Sikhs. The British held it from 1848 until Pakistan achieved independence in 1947. Landmarks include an old fort containing the 14th-century tombs of two Muslim saints.

Question: 1

Considering the topic “corruption and its effects on Pakistan”, collect a one paragraphmaterial from each of the following sources and give proper citation.

Corruption in Pakistan is widespread, particularly in the government and lower levels of police forces. According to 2016 results of Corruption Perception Index of Transparency International, Pakistan ranks 116th place out of 176 countries with its previous score of 127 out of 175 in 2013.
Corruption is an evil, which has played havoc with the socio-economic development of Pakistan. Corruption is a curse and a major hurdle to the progress of Pakistan. According to the World Bank estimates, more than US$1 trillion is paid in bribe every year and according to one estimate the cross-border flow of proceeds from corruption, criminal activities and tax evasion is US$3.61 trillion every year, or the equivalent of 3 to 5 percent of the world’s GDP. The first cause ofrapid corruption in Pakistan is lack of accountability. Our institutions like anti-corruption department and National Accountability Bureau- (NAB) are not fully independent. Whether it is military rule or civilian government, these institutions have been influenced and used by both civil and military governments for their personal gains or political victimization of the opponents.
Reasons behind all of above types of corruption are casual attitude, lack of commitment, non-clarity of good values, laziness, personal inability, avoiding hard work, discontentment, much desires and accordingly strong urge for accomplishing or achieving those wishes, jealousy and like more. Someone rightly said that behind every great fortune there is crime. Unfortunately everyone wants great fortune and are least bothered about the part i.e. crime. Quranic verse says that earning halal, judicial and fair livelihood is Ibadat and a person doing so is friend of Allah.
Corruption causes inequity in society and the gap between the rich and the poor increases. It is also regarded as the murder of merit. Corrupt people bypass deserving people and appoint their relatives or supporters to lucrative posts. According to Transparency International report 2011, Pakistan stands at 34th position in the world. The level of corruption has reached the optimum and it is advisable for the government of Pakistan to take some serious action to root out this menace from society.

Note: If you see any mistake and something wrong do your own work it is my thinking maybe your pint not match with me. Thank you
