Replies to This Discussion

For taking good marks in this subject u must read this book thoroughly because it's impossible to solve mcq's without reading book. Some of the mcq's were quite easy because they are from past papers.

Long questions were very simple in my paper.

Relational database

3 type of mapping

and few easy questions more which i didn't remember now.

Best of Luck

1-     Find out the Cartesian product (A X B) of the given pair of sets. Also find out any two relations from the set A X B

A=>Days_in_Week

B=>Shifts

A = {Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday}

B= {Shift-1, Shift-2, Shift-3}.

2-     Suppose we have an ERD having two entities, Employee and Parking-Space. There is one to one relationship between these two entities.

Employee Entity has attributes as;

Emp-id, Emp-name, Address

Parking-Space has attributes as;

Parking id

Map the said scenario into relation (s).

3-     Which of the attribute (s) from the given diagram is / are best candidate for multi-valued attribute.

4-     If Level Zero and Level One DFDs provide us enough details of each system, then why we need Context Level DFD?

1)

 Identify the errors in given Zero Level DFD. You are required to write the names of components, where incorrect symbols are used for its drawing

2)

We have a relation X, having the following attributes, as given below:

X (Student-idSpecialization-id, Supervisor-id)

Dependencies:

Student-id, Specialization-id -> Supervisor-id

Supervisor-id -> Specialization-id

Convert the relation in one form ahead in which it is now.

3)

Draw an ERD label with appropriate cardinalities, according to the scenario given below;

In ABC University, there are many departments. One Department offers many Courses and one course belongs to a particular department. Students can enroll in many courses and one Course is taken by many students

4)

 Define relation and cross matrix.

salam fellows,
today my most of the paper came from last 5 6 lectures
aik question me two tables given thay n third table me dono tables ko join kia va tha and uski joining type btani thi k konsi hai? 5marks
Q: rules of mapping. 3marks
Q :can relational data model use for external , conceptal , logical view? yes or no give logical reason. 2marks
define subtype discriminator?
yahi kuj yaad raha hai.. or mcqs to sab me say hi aye thy...

in my today's paper subjective is easy MCQS is not from past papers (Moaaz File) sirf 2 3 hi thay Moaaz bhai ki file mai sy baqi sb new thay tuff thay
Subjective:
Write Two type of Anomalies?
Write the main Function of Subtype Discriminator?
ik scenrio diya tha us mai sy Entities dhond k mention karni thi
ik mai Diagram thi jis mai Entitiy Student aur us k Attributes {ID, Skill, Name, Fathers Name, Address} thay in mai sy hum ny best candidate for multivalue attribute btana tha
ik mai Student X aur us k attributes diyay thay aur us ki dependencies btana tha k ye BOYCE law mention krti han k nhi aur ye attributes sb candidates key han k nhi Yes OR No mai answer dena tha
ik mai 2 table Customer ka aur Invoice ka diya hua tha jis sy hum ny Resultant Table A nikalna tha Through Realtional somthing formula diya tha k Customer X(EquiJoin)Invoice and EquiJoin = Customer.Customer ID

updation anomaly
Subtype discriminator:
This is tool or technique which provides us a methodology to determine that to which suctype one instance of a subtype belongs.
to determine the relation we place an attribute in the entity supertype which can specify through its value, that to which entity subtype it belongs. page 108

Short Question 2 of 2 Marks
Short Question3 of 2 Marks
Short Question 5 of 2 Marks
1- What is extension and intension
2- What is query evaluation engine
3- How many resultant tables we have, while implementing one-to-one relationship in designing database?
4- What is degree of a relation?
5- Difference between null value and zero value.
6- How does Tuple-oriented relational calculus differ from domain-oriented relational calculus?
------------

My today cs403 paper.

50% mcqs were from past papers.

Difference between relation and relationship. 2 marks

Define degree of a relation. 2 marks

Explain difference operation (A-B) between two relations. 3 marks

Anomalies se rewlated tha ek question 3 number ka.

1 relation di gie thi jo k 1st normal form mai thi, usy 2nd normal form me convert krna tha. 5 marks

or ek question ki mujhy khud samjh nhi lagi or wo mery zehan mai b nahi he.
------------
Write Two type of Anomalies?
Write the main Function of Subtype Discriminator?
ik scenrio diya tha us mai sy Entities dhond k mention karni thi

ik mai 2 table Customer ka aur Invoice ka diya hua tha jis sy hum ny Resultant Table A nikalna tha Through Realtional somthing formula diya tha k Customer X(EquiJoin)Invoice and EquiJoin = Customer.Customer ID

plz answer these two questions

QUESTION 1:
How many resultant tables we have, while implementing one-to-one relationship in designing database?

QUESTION 2:

notation of

theta join, Equi join, Semi join, Natural join, Outer join.

plzzzzzzzzz solve it

The tuple-oriented calculus uses a tuple variables i.e., variable whose only permitted values are tuples of that relation. E.g. QUEL
The domain-oriented calculus has domain variables i.e., variables that range over the underlying domains instead of over relation. E.g. ILL, DEDUCE.

consider following

SELECT userName, balance
FROM user u LEFT OUTER JOIN user_Account ua ON u.id = ua.id
WHERE u.ID = 12345 AND ua.accountType = 'Savings'

Zero is an actual value. It means the user in question has a savings account with nothing in it.

Null is the absence of a value. It could mean the user exists but has not opened a savings account.

Identify, above relation is in which Normal Form? Also write one reason to support your answer.

  1. 4.      Suppose we have two relations Y and Z, where:

Y=>Student_Name

Z=>Degree

And

Y = {Ali, Imran}

Z = {BCS, MCS}

  1. 5.      Can we use Relational Data Model to fully specify External, Conceptual and Physical Schema (Yes / No)? Justify your answer in either case.
  2. 6.      If Level Zero and Level One DFDs provide us enough details of each system, then why we need Context Level DFD
