Question No.1 (5 Marks)

Calculate the bandwidth required of the given AM Station with proper unit.
Modulating signal with bandwidth of 7 KHz.
Calculate the bandwidth required of the given FM Station with proper unit.
Modulating signal with frequencies of 10000 to 19000 Hz.

Question No. 2 (5 Marks)

Suppose, if the bandwidth of the medium is 16,000Hz and the difference between the two carrier frequencies (fc1 and fc0) is 2000Hz, and the transmission is in full duplex mode. Find the maximum baud rate for FSK signal in each direction with all necessary calculation and proper unit.

Question No.1
a)      Calculate the bandwidth required of the given AM Station with proper unit.
·        Modulating signal with bandwidth of 7 KHz.
Solution: -
Bandwidth of AM signal = 2* bandwidth of modulating signal
BWt  = 2 * BWm ,  where  BWt   = Total Bandwidth and BW= Bandwidth of modulating signal
BW= 2 * 7 = 14
So,
Bandwidth of required of the given AM signal = 14 KHz
b)      Calculate the bandwidth required of the given FM Station with proper unit.
·        Modulating signal with frequencies of 10000 to 19000 Hz.
Fc1 = 19,000
Fc0= 10,000
Fc1-Fc0 = 19,000 – 10,000 = 9,000 Hz
Which is = 9 KHz
Bandwidth of FM signal = 10 * Bandwidth of modulating signal
Bandwidth of FM signal = 10 * 9 = 90 KHz
Bandwidth required of the given FM station = 90 KHz

Suppose, if the bandwidth of the medium is 16,000Hz and the difference between the two carrier frequencies (fc1 and fc0) is 2000Hz, and the transmission is in full duplex mode. Find the maximum baud rate for FSK signal in each direction with all necessary calculation and proper unit.
Solution: -
FSK,
Bandwidth BW= (fc– fc0) + NBaud
For FSK, if fcand fcare the carrier frequencies then:
BW= Max Baud Rate + (fc– fc0)
16,000=Max Baud Rate + 2,000
Max Baud Rate = -16,000 + 2,000
Max Baud Rate = 14,000
Transmission is full duplex mode: -
Max Baud Rate = Bandwidth/2 - (fc– fc0)
Max Baud Rate = 16,000/2 – 2,000
Max Baud Rate = 8,000 – 2,000
Max Baud Rate = 6,000
