Q 1 Suppose you are installing a new network for a company that is growing rapidly. The current design calls for 28 computers, with expansion to 80 in the next six months. Because of the speed at which the network is expected to grow, you want to make sure that adding new devices in the network and troubleshooting will be as easy as possible. So, considering these factors, which topology you will prefer for this type of network? Give proper reasoning to support your answer. (5 Marks)

Q.2 How does the logical topology differ from the physical topology? Can a single physical topology support multiple logical topologies? Answer with proper reasons. (5 Marks)

Q 3 Suppose you have been asked to put together a proposal for a new computer network of a company. You have been asked to specifically list the advantages to networking. Of the following equipment the company owns, which devices can be shared on a network? (5 Marks)

Choose all that apply:

  1. Keyboard
  2. Mouse
  3. Scanner
  4. Monitor
  5. CD-ROM drives
  6. Light pen
  7. Printer

Note:

  • Assignment should be in your own wordings not exactly copied from Internet, handouts or books.

  • Your answer should be “to the point”.

CS601 1st Assignment 2nd Question Solution spring 2012

Q.2 How does the logical topology differ from the physical topology? Can a single physical topology support multiple logical topologies? Answer with proper reasons. (5 Marks)

Solution :

the physical layout of devices on a network, every LAN has a topology, or the way that the devices on a network
are arranged and how they communicate with each ohter. the wat that the worksations are connected to the
network through the actual cables that transmit data -- the physical structure of the network -- is called
the physical topology.
the logical topology, is contrast, is the way that the signals act on the network media,
on the way that the data passes through the network from one device to the nexr with out regard to the phycical interconnection
of the devices.

Becaise multipoint topologies share a common channel, each device needs a way to
identify itself and the device to which it wants to send information. the method used to
identify senders and receivers is called addressing four types of physical topologies are frequently
used in computer networking:

1. Star
2. Bus
3. Ring
4. Hybird

Objectives of this File

After completing this chapter, you should be able to answer the following questions:
■ Why is proper planning necessary when you
perform a network upgrade?
■ What is a site survey, and why is it necessary?
■ What steps are involved in performing a site
survey?
What is structured cabling?
■ What factors must you consider when upgrading
LAN and internetworking devices?

Sol:

the ans can be Mash topology or Star topology …. But according me STAR would be more suitable as it is good with many computers connected in a network plus can also perform troubleshooting and new devices can be easily added in the network ……….

NOT exact answer….. For details and better understanding do some research (google) and write the answer in your own words ….. VUstudents team is here to QUIDE you : )
