A nationwide shoe manufacturing company signs a contract with a software house for inventory management system. This inventory management system will gather sales data from each outlet across Pakistan on daily basis. The collected data will then be used by different departments; accounting, shipping, billing, dispatch unit etc. Functions of inventory management system are critical to run their outlets throughout the country.

System is developed and sent for Quality Assurance. Jawad, one of the Quality Assurance Engineer, suspects that some of inventory functions have not been tested properly. When he checks the documents, tests required as per contract have been done and functions are fine.

He wants to perform some additional quality tests but his boss forces him to clear the report.  The boss insists that system has passed all those tests which were required as per contract. Jawad, on the basis of his experience tells his boss that if system fails, it can harm our client.  His boss argues that it is not harmful to human safety. He further supports his argument by saying that we have fulfilled our legal obligations and company will suffer a huge loss if we do not deliver inventory management system on time.

           Now Jawad is in dilemma as his boss is also right. As a professional, what is your stance in this situation?

a)    Which ethical principles are being violated here?

b)   What should be the action of Jawad as a professional?
