Dear Students,

Note that the Graded Discussion Board (GDB) of CS403 Database Management Systems will remain open for Two days (48 Hours only) from 12:00 AM August 12th, 2015 (Wednesday) to August 13th, 2015 (Thursday) till 11:59 PM according to Pakistan Standard Time.

HR department decided some new benefits and bonus policies according to pay scale and Designation of employees. So they need to update employees’ relevant record based on specific criteria.  Which indexing technique will be better for above scenario for updation of records?

1)      Clustered Indexing

2)      Non- Clustered Indexing

Justify your answer with proper reasoning.

Note: Try to provide precise (4 to 5 lines only including solid reasons), to the point answer and avoid irrelevant details

WHAT IS INDEX

Index is a database object, which can be created on one or more columns
(16 Max column combinations). When creating the index will read the column(s) and forms a relevant data structure to minimize the number of data comparisons. The index will improve the performance of data retrieval and adds some overhead on data modification such as create, delete and modify. So it depends on how much data retrieval can be performed on table

CLUSTERED INDEX

clustered index is a special type of index that reorders the way records in the table are physically stored. Therefore table can have only one clustered index. The leaf nodes of a clustered index contain the data pages.

EXAMPLES OF CLUSTERED INDEX

Assume that you often need to gather employee information by department. In the EMP table, you can create a clustering index on the DEPTNO column.

CREATE INDEX DEPT_IX

ON EMP

(DEPTNO ASC)

CLUSTER;

As a result, all rows for the same department are probably close together. DB2 can generally access all the rows for that department in a single read. (Using a clustering index does not guarantee that all rows for the same department are stored on the same page. The actual storage of rows depends on the size of the rows, the number of rows and the amount of available free space. Likewise, some pages may contain rows for more than one department.)

i think

  Non- Clustered Index

because Clustered index mai database update krny sy prob hain

mujhy bhi yahi lgta kyun k updation k lahaz sy Non-clustering sahi rahay gy.

no-clustered bilkul ghalat hae. non cluster m physically data do jaga m save hota hae. jaisy textbook ka index.

kis ne kaha problems hain.. kisay problems?

Which indexing technique will be better for above scenario for updation of records?
1) Clustered Indexing
2) Non- Clustered Indexing
