Graded Discussion Board GDB Artificial Intelligence CS607 Fall 2012
Dear students a Graded Moderated Discussion Board will be opened for “Artificial Intelligence (Cs607) from February 07, 2013 to February 08, 2013, in which you have to post your comments on the topic given below and it will have weight-age of 5% of your total subject marks. Your comments will be graded based on the logic you have used to support your answer.
GDB Topic For Artificial Intelligence CS607
“Artificial Intelligence is the core element of Knowledge Management which is used in Expert Systems. Expert Systems can never be useful without Artificial Intelligence” Justify the given statement either right or wrong with strong arguments.
1. Books, websites and other reading material may be consulted before posting your comments. (Do not copy the material as it is.) If any one found copying the answer of other students or from any web site will get zero marks for his/her attempt.
2. Your comments must not exceed more than 7 lines.
3. Try to come up with your own arguments so that you could get maximum benefit from this exercise.
4. Short and to the point comments will be preferred over lengthy comments.
5. You should post your comments on the Graded MDB & not on the Regular MDB. Both will run parallel to each other during the time specified above. Do not post multiple comments.
6. You cannot participate in the discussion after the due date or through e-mail.
7. Your answer should contain important points. Also follow the instructions given in announcement.
You can start preparing your comments now.

In artificial intelligence, an expert system is a computer system that emulates the decision-making ability of a human expert. Expert systems are designed to solve complex problems by reasoning about knowledge, like an expert, and not by following the procedure of a developer as is the case in conventional programming. The first expert systems were created in the 1970s and then proliferated in the 1980s. Expert systems were among the first truly successful forms of AI software.
An expert system has a unique structure, different from traditional programs. It is divided into two parts, one fixed, independent of the expert system: the inference engine, and one variable: the knowledge base. To run an expert system, the engine reasons about the knowledge base like a human. In the 80s a third part appeared: a dialog interface to communicate with users. This ability to conduct a conversation with users was later called "conversational".[14
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the intelligence of machines and robots and the branch of computer science that aims to create it. AI textbooks define the field as "the study and design of intelligent agents" where an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chances of success. John McCarthy, who coined the term in 1955, defines it as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines."
AI research is highly technical and specialized, deeply divided into subfields that often fail to communicate with each other. Some of the division is due to social and cultural factors: subfields have grown up around particular institutions and the work of individual researchers. AI research is also divided by several technical issues. There are subfields which are focused on the solution of specific problems, on one of several possible approaches, on the use of widely differing tools and towards the accomplishment of particular applications. The central problems of AI include such traits as reasoning, knowledge, planning, learning, communication, perception and the ability to move and manipulate objects. General intelligence (or "strong AI") is still among the field's long term goals. Currently popular approaches include statistical methods, computational intelligence and traditional symbolic AI. There are an enormous number of tools used in AI, including versions of search and mathematical optimization, logic, methods based on probability and economics, and many others.
The field was founded on the claim that a central property of humans, intelligence—the sapience of Homo sapiens—can be so precisely described that it can be simulated by a machine. This raises philosophical issues about the nature of the mind and the ethics of creating artificial beings, issues which have been addressed by myth, fiction and philosophy since antiquity. Artificial intelligence has been the subject of optimism, but has also suffered setbacks and, today, has become an essential part of the technology industry, providing the heavy lifting for many of the most difficult problems in computer science.[1
Thanks for educating us on Artificial Intelligence, actually I lack the normal one as well, A dump.... anyway, would try to get something from this discussion. Please express your opinion in the best possible manner. Thanks
somthng z confusing plzzzzzzz hlp
plz kuch idea solution dain
i think what u say
ES are a popular and useful application area in AI. Having
studied KRR, it is instructive to study ES to see a practical manifestation of the
principles learnt there.
The first breakthrough successful application of AI came from the subject of
knowledge representation and reasoning and was name expert systems. Based
on its components i.e. knowledge base, inference and working memory, expert
systems have been successfully applied to diagnosis, interpretation, prescription,
design, planning, simulations, etc.
plzzzzzzzzzzzzz give some relevnt points?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
any body help plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
