Graded Discussion Board CS607 Artificial Intelligence Fall 2012 Due Date 7/02/13 to 8/02/13

Graded Discussion Board GDB Artificial Intelligence CS607 Fall 2012

Dear students a Graded Moderated Discussion Board will be opened for “Artificial Intelligence (Cs607) from February 07, 2013 to February 08, 2013, in which you have to post your comments on the topic given below and it will have weight-age of 5% of your total subject marks. Your comments will be graded based on the logic you have used to support your answer.

GDB Topic For Artificial Intelligence CS607

“Artificial Intelligence is the core element of Knowledge Management which is used in Expert Systems. Expert Systems can never be useful without Artificial Intelligence” Justify the given statement either right or wrong with strong arguments.

Note:

1.      Books, websites and other reading material may be consulted before posting your comments. (Do not copy the material as it is.) If any one found copying the answer of other students or from any web site will get zero marks for his/her attempt.

2.      Your comments must not exceed more than 7 lines.

3.      Try to come up with your own arguments so that you could get maximum benefit from this exercise.

4.      Short and to the point comments will be preferred over lengthy comments.

5.      You should post your comments on the Graded MDB & not on the Regular MDB. Both will run parallel to each other during the time specified above. Do not post multiple comments.

6.      You cannot participate in the discussion after the due date or through e-mail.

7.      Your answer should contain important points. Also follow the instructions given in announcement.

You can start preparing your comments now.

Expert Systems can never be useful without Artificial Intelligence” and yes IT IS TRUE without AI, Expert System is useless and cannot do its work in bst way okay

Helping Material 1:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the intelligence of machines and robots and the branch of computer science that aims to create it. AI textbooks define the field as "the study and design of intelligent agents"[1] where an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chances of success.[2] John McCarthy, who coined the term in 1955,[3] defines it as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines."[4]

AI research is highly technical and specialized, deeply divided into subfields that often fail to communicate with each other.[5] Some of the division is due to social and cultural factors: subfields have grown up around particular institutions and the work of individual researchers. AI research is also divided by several technical issues. There are subfields which are focused on the solution of specific problems, on one of several possible approaches, on the use of widely differing tools and towards the accomplishment of particular applications. The central problems of AI include such traits as reasoning, knowledge, planning, learning, communication, perception and the ability to move and manipulate objects.[6] General intelligence (or "strong AI") is still among the field's long term goals.[7] Currently popular approaches include statistical methodscomputational intelligence and traditional symbolic AI. There are an enormous number of tools used in AI, including versions of search and mathematical optimizationlogicmethods based on probability and economics, and many others.

The field was founded on the claim that a central property of humans, intelligence—the sapience of Homo sapiens—can be so precisely described that it can be simulated by a machine.[8] This raises philosophical issues about the nature of the mind and the ethics of creating artificial beings, issues which have been addressed by mythfiction and philosophy since antiquity.[9] Artificial intelligence has been the subject of optimism,[10] but has also suffered setbacks[11] and, today, has become an essential part of the technology industry, providing the heavy lifting for many of the most difficult problems in computer science.[1

“It’s true that Expert Systems can never be useful without Artificial Intelligence”

Intelligence is the ability of something that has the ability of problem solving, uncertainty handling, planning, perception, information processing, recognition, etc. As we know that humans are having these abilities so humans are intelligent. Systems that act or think like humans are called expert systems so called artificially intelligent. So a system without artificial intelligence will not have above abilities and we can’t say it expert system.

send proper ans plzzz

plz justify it that xprtsys x not usful widout AI plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

There is a class of computer programs, known as expert systems, that aim to mimic human reasoning. The methods and techniques used to build these programs are the outcome of efforts in a field of computer science known as Artificial Intelligence (AI).
