The Prime Minister’s Scheme for Provision of Laptops is an attempt to enhance the scope of research and quality education in the country and increase the access to information technology.

The objective is to provide free laptops to 100 thousand brilliant students currently studying at public sector colleges and universities or are high achievers of the all Boards of Pakistan in Matriculation Examinations, Intermediate, Bachelors, Masters and MPhil, PhD as well.

The motivation and enthusiasm behind this scheme is to help students rise above problems and hurdles they face in their path to gain knowledge and excel professionally.

Eligibility criteria

Students, both male and female, registered in an HEC approved educational institution are eligible for the scheme. All masters/doctoral students and 50% under-graduate students will get the laptop.

Geographical Spread

The scheme has nationwide outreach; students registered in an HEC approved institute from across Pakistan can benefit from the scheme.

Cost per laptop

As an approximate, each laptop will be worth Rs.40,000.

Total Number

A total of 100,000 students from across Pakistan will be awarded a laptop.

Budget Allocation FY 2013-14

The scheme has an allocated budget of Rs.4.0 billion for the financial year 2013-2014.

Executing Agency

The Higher Education Commission (HEC)/Ministry of Education and Trainings will be the central executing agency for the scheme.

The Government of the Punjab has successfully implemented the scheme to provide free laptops to students in the past. Therefore, the pattern and parameters adopted in Punjab shall be replicated in the design and implementation of the scheme.

Local Manufacturing

The Higher Education Commission is in negotiation with manufacturers for local assembly of laptop computers. This would increase the initiative’s feasibility with reference to a growth in the popularity of this scheme.

 However, the following are NOT eligible for this initiative:

  1. MS/M.Phil/PhD scholars who are recipients of Higher Education Commission Scholarships.
  2. Students who are doing any kind of job (public as well as private).
  3. Students who have earlier received laptops in the last year’s scheme.
  4. Foreign nationals except students from Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Indian Occupied Kashmir.
Note
  • In case of GPA/CGPA, CGPA will be taken in to consideration and will be converted into percentage marks on the basis of Higher Education Commission formula.
  • If you think you are eligible and have not been selected or have any other grievances, kindly contact your respective Focal Persons of College/ University / Board
  • You can also register your grievance with the Independent Grievance Redressal Committees (IGRCs) at Divisional Commissioner’s level, which have been constituted by the Chief Minister Punjab, to hear and dispose off appeals submitted by various students regarding e-Youth Laptops Scheme.
  • All eligible morning students of phase 1, in accordance with the finalized lists already available with HED, who still have not received the laptops are being referred to Independence Grievance Redressal Committees(IGRCs) for verification and redressal. NO NEW NAMES WILL BE ADDED TO THESE EXISTING LISTS.
  • The laptops awarded to the eligible candidates do not require any initial deposit or payment. All laptops distributed via this scheme are absolutely free of cost. These laptops are non transferable; however if the candidate thinks he/she already as a laptop and would like to spare it for another deserving candidate, the gesture shall be valued and appreciated by the Chief Minister Punjab in person.

PM Laptop Scheme 2014 Eligible List of Government Universities

PM Youth Laptop Scheme has been announced by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif. PM Laptop Scheme will start in the month of April 2014 and it will provide in Government Universities by PM Nawaz Sharif. Government Universities only eligible for such scheme and Laptop will provide to the eligiblestudent after proper process. Students of Master/Doctoral Students and 50% in graduate Student will obtain the Laptop Scheme 2014. According to the information from PM Youth Laptop Scheme 2014, total 100,000 Laptop will be distributed among the eligible student who got 60% marks in last degree of Education.

PM launches national-level laptop scheme


ISLAMABAD: The first-ever Prime Minister's Provision of Laptop Scheme was formally launched here on Friday by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under Prime Minister's Youth Programme.

The maiden national-level scheme will be supervised by Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chairperson Prime Minister's Youth Programme.

The Prime Minister would distribute the laptops among the students hailing from all the provinces including FATA, Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan with an objective to boost the scope of research, quality education and improved access to information and communication technology among the graduate and post-graduate level students in the country.

The Rs 4.0 billion scheme would cover 100,000 students across the country.

Sources said PTCL EVO 3G dongle would also be provided for free internet access for three months and further explained that an inbuilt App in the laptops would provide various academic productivity tools to the students including a Digital Library to access more than 6,000 research journals offered under National Digital Library Program besides a lot of other online facilities to the students. – SAMAA/APP

PM’s Youth Program hallmark of one year govt performance

Monday, June 16, 2014 - Islamabad—The hallmark of the one year performance of PakistanMuslim League(N) government is the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme which benefitted hundreds of thousands of students, especially from less developed areas.

Under the program, six customized schemes were launched to fulfill the employment and entrepreneurial needs of youth.

Empowerment of youth has been one of the top priorities of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif-led government in year 2013-14.

PM’s youth program shows the same commitment and priority, which the leadership attaches to this crucial segment of the Pakistani society.

According to a document released by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Rs 18.5 billion were spent on these schemes in the financial year 2013-14.

First of all Government introduced PM’s interest free Loans Scheme with a grant of Rs 3.5 billion. The microfinance facility aimed at helping giving access to loans to five million people in next five years.

Secondly, PML-N led government introduced PM’s Youth Business Loans Scheme for which Rs five billion were allocated. The scheme focused on unemployed youth and especially educated youth looking for establishing or extending enterprises.

The government also introduced PM’s Youth Training Scheme with Rs four billion giving youthtraining through internship in private and public sector offices.

The Prime Minister also launched Youth Skills Development Scheme with Rs 800 million to trainunemployed youth of Pakistan so that they could acquire productive skills for gainful employment.

Another scheme was Prime Minister’s Scheme for provision of Laptops worth Rs four billion. The scheme was aimed at spreading the use of computers amongst the colleges and universities level students, boosting awareness of technology among the youth. 

Another initiative was Prime Minister’s scheme for reimbursement of fee for students from the less developed areas of Interior Sindh, Southern Punjab divisions of Multan, Bahawalpur and DG Khan, Balochistan, less developed areas of Kyber Pakhtunkhwa including Malakand, Kohistan and DI Khan areas, Gilgit Baltistan and FATA. Rs 1.2 billion were allocated for the reimbursement of fees to students.—APP
