Identify different types of managerial roles in light of Mintzberg’s managerial roles.


After taking the charge as Principal at Watson College, Mr. Ayaz had to face multiple challenges such as settling down the existing unrest among the staff on remuneration packages and preparing annual estimates of income and expenditure for consideration and approval by the board of governors (BoG) in an upcoming meeting.

Another mammoth task waiting for him was to look at the matters related to budget allocation for effective running of research and development centre of the college. He also needs to ensure the effective and efficient management of all the resources of the institute i.e. financial, physical and human resources. Now, one of his daily routines is to greet the guests and visiting parents in the college.  Also, he attends the official meetings with education boards, other District educational offices, and relevant organization to sign various Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

After BoG meetings, he is responsible for providing the relevant information and directs all the staff i.e. teaching and non-teaching as per the decisions which are taken by the BoG. His vast experience and management skills enabled him to cope with all the challenges and tasks and emerged successful in performing his roles.

Point of Discussion:

After critically analyzing the above scenario, you are required to identify the managerial roles being performed by Mr. Ayaz in the light of Mintzberg’s managerial roles.
