What is this Mr tariq malik. I dont want need based scholarship but I want to avail merit based If I am eligible so please do tell me about that and please do make efforts for getting laptops for VU MS level students. After all, its a federally public chartered university.

VIRTUAL UNIVERSITY OF PAKISTAN
STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP REGULATIONS, 2010

1.      TITLE

 

These Regulations may be called the “Student Scholarship Regulations, 2010".

 

2.      COMMENCEMENT

 

These Regulations shall come into force with immediate effect.

 

3.      APPLICATION

 

These Regulations shall apply to regular students of the Virtual University of Pakistan registered for degree programs representing fourteen or sixteen years of education.

 

4.      DEFINITIONS

 

In these Regulations unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context:-

a)      "Board" means the Board of Governors of Virtual University of Pakistan.

b)      “Campus” means a campus of the Virtual University of Pakistan.

c)      "Chairman" means Chairman of the Management Committee.

d)      "Director Finance" means the Director Finance of the University.

e)      "Management Committee" means the Committee constituted by the Virtual University of Pakistan under these Regulations for the purpose of managing the financial assistance for the students.

f)        "Member" means a member of the Management Committee.

g)      “Merit List” means a list of students ordered either by percentage marks or Cumulative Grade Point Average.

h)      "Rector" means the Rector of Virtual University of Pakistan.

i)        "Secretary" means the Secretary of the Management Committee.

j)         “Student” means a registered student of Virtual University of Pakistan;

k)      "University" means the Virtual University of Pakistan.

 

All other terms and expressions shall have the same meaning as assigned to them under the Virtual University of Pakistan Ordinance 2002.

 

5.      AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

 

The University intends to provide scholarships to students:

a)      Merit-based, to encourage healthy academic competition amongst students and

b)      Need-based to provide financial assistance to deserving students.

 

6.      MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

 

The award of scholarships shall be managed by a Management Committee comprising:

 

i.         Registrar

Chairman

ii.       Controller of Examinations

Member

iii.      Two Regional Campus Managers nominated by the Rector

Members

iv.     Director Finance

Member/Secretary

a)      The term of office of the nominated members shall be two years.

b)      The Committee shall meet at least twice during an academic year.

 

7.      MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

 

a)      Scholarships shall comprise remission of the applicable tuition fee only; students shall have to pay all other dues.

b)      Scholarships shall be valid for one semester only, covering a period of six months from the commencement of the semester.

c)      Scholarships may be awarded only to students who:

i.         follow the defined scheme of studies of the applicable program without a break in their studies;

ii.       are not in receipt of any other scholarship / financial assistance and,

iii.      have not changed their study or degree program during the course of their studies.

d)      The scholarship shall be terminated if the student freezes / withdraws / discontinues studies or is found guilty of cheating or using unfair means in academic activities.

e)      In order to remain eligible for the award of merit scholarships, continuing students must not have any repeat/fail courses.

f)       Award of scholarships to newly admitted students

i.         The University shall compile separate Merit Lists for each of its programs on the basis of the examination on which the admission was granted.

ii.       Students who have obtained at least 65% marks OR minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 OR minimum CGPA of 4.0 out of 5.0 (as applicable) shall be eligible for the award of a merit scholarship.

iii.      The top three students on each Merit List shall be awarded merit scholarships subject to Clause 7(f)(ii).

iv.     In case of any tie in the determination of merit, the marks/CGPA obtained by the students in the examination preceding the one on which the merit list was created, shall be considered; any remaining tie will be resolved on the basis of dates of birth, with the youngest being given precedence.

g)      Award of scholarships to continuing students

i.         The University shall compile separate Merit Lists for each of its programs on the basis of semester GPA.

ii.       Students who have obtained a minimum semester GPA of 3.25 while maintaining a CGPA of at least 3.00 shall be eligible for the award of a merit scholarship.

iii.      The top three students on each Merit List shall be awarded merit scholarships subject to Clause 7(g) (ii) above.

iv.     In case of any tie in the determination of merit, the overall percentage marks for the semester shall be considered; any remaining tie will be resolved on the basis of dates of birth, with the youngest being given precedence.

 

8.      NEED BASED SCHOLARSHIPS

 

a)      Scholarships shall comprise partial or full remission of the applicable tuition fee only; students shall have to pay all other dues. .

b)      Scholarships shall be valid for the minimum duration of the respective degree program.

c)      Scholarships may be awarded only to students who:

i.         follow the defined scheme of studies of the applicable program without a break in their studies;

ii.       are not in receipt of any other scholarship / financial assistance; and

iii.      have not changed their study or degree program during the course of their studies.

d)      The scholarship shall be terminated if the student withdraws from the University or is found guilty of cheating or using unfair means in academic activities.

e)      The scholarship shall stand suspended if the student freezes his/her studies provided that the request for semester freeze was submitted within four weeks of the commencement of the semester. Studies discontinued after the first four weeks of the semester shall result in termination of the scholarship.

f)        In order to remain eligible for the scholarships, continuing students must not have any repeat/fail courses.

g)      The number and amount of scholarships shall be determined each year by the Management Committee based on the amount allocated in the annual budget.

h)      Award of Need Based scholarships to newly admitted students

i.         Students intending to avail Need Based scholarships shall apply on the prescribed form at the time of filing the admission application.

ii.       Students who have obtained at least 60% marks OR minimum CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 OR minimum CGPA of 3.5 out of 5.0 (as applicable) shall be eligible for the award of a Need Based scholarship.

iii.      The University shall compile separate Merit Lists of the eligible applicants for each of its programs on the basis of the examination on which the admission was granted.

iv.     The top students on each Merit List shall be awarded Need Based scholarships subject to Clause 8 (h)(ii) above.

v.       In case of any tie in the determination of merit, the marks/CGPA obtained by the students in the examination preceding the one on which the merit list was created, shall be considered; any remaining tie will be resolved on the basis of dates of birth, with the youngest being given precedence. 

i)        Award of Need Based scholarships to continuing students

i.         Students who are availing Need Based scholarships must achieve a minimum semester GPA of 2.25 while maintaining a CGPA of at least 2.50, failing which the scholarship shall stand withdrawn.

ii.       Such students whose scholarship has been withdrawn for not maintaining the required CGPA of 2.50 will become re-eligible for the scholarship uponachieving the required CGPA. However, the resumption of the scholarship shall be subject to the availability of funds.

iii.      The scholarship of such students, who had discontinued their studies through semester freeze, may be resumed provided the total duration of the freeze period does not exceed two semesters. However, the resumption of the scholarship shall be subject to the availability of funds.

 

 

PAKISTAN BAIT-UL-MALL STIPENDS

Pakistan Bait-ul-Mall have intimated that education stipends are provided to poorest of the poor students having proven brilliant academic record and studying in government institutions. The stipends to the deserving students are being paid as per following details:

The Pakistan Bait-ul-Mall (PBM) further intimated that :-

  1. The education stipend and boarding charges for the students of primary and high school level are being paid for uniform, books, stationary and tuition fee, in favor of student’s parents while education stipend & boarding charges for post-Matric students are paid to the concerned institution.
  2. All payments are being made through crossed cheque only in favor of the Head of the institution.
  3. Students of M.Phil & PhD are not eligible for Individual Financial Assistance (IFA) education stipend
  4. The students seeking education stipend out of PBM funds are required to submit application along with academic testimonials and bonafide certificates to the nearest Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal Provincial / Regional Office or Head office H-8/4, Islamabad. These cases are got investigated to ascertain their genuineness as per eligibility criteria. 
  5. The deserving students are paid education stipend once a year on inception of new academic session in case of annual and semester system as well.
  6. Education stipend can be provided to two members of same family at a time (within the maximum limit of Rs. 30,000/-).
  7. Budget under relevant head is not sufficient to accommodate each and every case; therefore, the cases are being processed by PBM on first come first serve basis.

NBP STUDENT LOAN SCHEME

National Bank of Pakistan has invited applications from eligible students for grant of loans. Application form may be downloaded here and also at the designated branches of NBP. All the interested students are required to fill up the application form and submit to VU for verification well before the last date (which is February 28, 2014) published at National Bank website(http://www.nbp.com.pk/SLFiles/StudentLoanDetails.PDF). The same form will be returned to the student after necessary attestations for onward submission to NBP designated branchesby the students. Students are advised to read the instructions carefully given with the application form and attach all the documents as required by the bank. Virtual University has to certify only that he/she is a bonafied student at this university while the application will be processed by the bank to decide whether or not a loan is to be granted.

FACILITY OF INTEREST-FREE LOAN TO THE STUDENTS OF PUBLIC SECTOR
UNIVERSITIES AND INSTITUTES

The State Bank of Pakistan had launched an interest-free loan scheme for students of public sector Universities, Institutes Colleges in February, 2001. The objective of scheme was to provide financial assistance to the meritorious students who obtain at least 70 % marks in the last examination and are unable to pursue their studies within Pakistan due to financial constraints. Such loans are available to students for tuition fee, purchase of text books/ reference books and boarding expenses.

The National Bank of Pakistan has devised a procedure for inviting applications from students and its processing for the grant of loans. The same is available in their designated branches in all major cities along with prescribed application form.

In its earlier notification of the National Bank of Pakistan, some Universities established in the public sector were not listed in this scheme. The case was taken up by the HEC with the Sate Bank and followed up vigorously. It has now been decided by the State Bank to include all public sector Universities and Institutions recognized by HEC for the facility of interest-free loan for the students

FOR GIRLS: REGULAR STUDENTS (NOT “SELF – SUPPORTING“ CATEGORY)

In pursuance of its objects, Babar Ali Foundation awards Syeda Mubarik Begum Scholarships for the promotion of education, general uplift and welfare of needy women.

These scholarships are granted to girls, admitted as regular students (“not self-supporting” category), to supplement the resources available to them for their studies in public sector colleges and universities in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Preference is given to studies in Commerce / Engineering / Agriculture / Medicine degrees and postgraduate studies in Science, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Languages, Medicine and Surgery. Students of management science (business or public administration), accounting, teacher training and education are also considered for the award of scholarships.

The scholarships are granted mainly on the basis of consistently excellently academic record as indicated by marks (not less than 60% in annual examination or 80% in semester studies) obtained in the previous examinations (taken as whole & not in parts) coupled with the established need of the applicant for financial assistance. Furthermore, an assessment of her potential for contribution to nation-building activities, particularly for the welfare and uplift of women, and for developing as a useful member of the society in general carries a considerable weight.

The scholarship is usually released in suitable installments and the continuation of disbursements depends on receipt of satisfactory reports from the head of the scholarship holder’s institution on her academic progress, punctuality, and conduct. The foundation reserves the right to withdraw its sanction of the scholarship or to amend its terms, amount and/or duration at any time without assigning any reason.

The application should be in the applicant’s own handwriting, must be complete in all respects and be accompanied by attested copies of all requisite documents, certificated etc. Only girl students pursuing their education as regular students (not “self-supporting” category) in academic session 2013-14 may apply.

PUNJAB WORKERS WELFARE BOARD

Punjab Workers Welfare Board has been constituted under the provisions of Workers Welfare Fund Ordinance, 1971. The Workers Welfare Fund is the paymaster of the Boards constituted under the ordinance.  The mandate of these Boards is to undertake the efficient disbursement and administration of the allocated money. The Boards under the constituent law are bound to follow the decision taken by the Workers Welfare Fund.

 

 

PUNJAB WORKERS WELFARE SCHOLARSHIP

 

Punjab Workers Welfare Board advertised the scholarship for the session 2013-14 wherein candidates are required to submit their application on or before February 28, 2014 to the workers welfare board office. For details, please visit www.pwwb.com.pk.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS & REGULATIONS OF TALENT SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME:

 

Ø      Industrial establishment and worker must fall under the respective definition as assigned by Workers Welfare Fund Ordinance, 1971.

Ø      Workers concerned must have at least three years accumulative on his credit, however no pay limit is fixed.

Ø      Workers concerned must be registered under EOBI / Social Security Scheme.

Ø      Student concerned must have at least 45% marks in previously passed examination.

Ø      All expenses vis-à-vis Admission Fee, Tuition fee, Registration Fee, and Security Fee are borne by Workers Welfare Board Punjab and an amount of Rs. 2,300/- P.M (for day Scholar) is paid as scholarship.

Ø      Applications are received at the respective District Labour Offices and following scrutiny by the respective District Scrutiny Committee, cheques are issued by this Board in favour of claimants.

 

Students of VU are eligible to get scholarship. Applicants that fulfill the above-mentioned eligibility criteria are directed to have recourse to the office of Punjab Workers Welfare Board / respective District Officers Labour for further guidance.
