~ What is Art ~   My Search

I was in search of WHAT IS ART and here is what I have come up with.

ART has not always been what we think it is today. An object regarded as Art today may not have been perceived as such when it was first made, nor was the person who made it necessarily regarded as an artist.

Even now, “Art” lacks a satisfactory definition yet few which I find inspiring are shared below:

The most precise definition by Wikipedia:

“Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items (often with symbolic significance) in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses, emotions, and intellect. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, photography, sculpture, and paintings”.

I will quote Scott Adams who says:

“Creativity allows you to make mistakes.  Art knows which ones to keep.”

Amy Lowell says:

“Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in.”

Picasso has a unique but inspiring view:

“We all know that Art is not truth.  Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand.  The artist must know the manner whereby to convince others of the truthfulness of his lies.”

I got stucked when I read a statement of one anonymous writer who says:

“Let me ask you something, what is not art?”

And here I stopped searching for the definition of ART. I got to know that everything around us is Art of one person or the other. For instance, the furniture we see around is the art of its designer, this  laptop on which I am working is the art  of its creater etc. Similarly, this whole world and the beauties of nature is the Art of Allah SWT.

Undoudtedly, He SWT is the best Artist.
