BIF501 Bioinformatics II Assignment No 01 Spring 2020 Solution & Discussion
BIF501 Bioinformatics II Assignment 1 Solution & Discussion Spring 2020
Q.1 Database Working
A. There are three known domains of life, Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya. In addition, some people think viruses form the fourth domain of life. A lot of work has been done on bacteria and viruses. This has reflected in their representation in online bioinformatics databases. Please scan the online NCBI genome databases and tell me how many archaeal, bacterial, eukaryal and viral genomes are available for download? (2)
B. Which domain of life is the most represented and why?
Q.2 Please search for “Bacillus anthracis” at NCBI and answer the following questions.
A. How many genomes assemble, and annotation and plasmid annotations are corresponding to the bacterium? (1)
B. Describe the properties of B. anthracis? Give its genome length, total proteins, and other interesting information you may find. Do not exceed more than 1 paragraph in your response. (2)
C. Give the accession number or NCBI Id of this genome. (1)

Answer:
B. Which domain of life is the most represented and why?
Answer
Eukaryotes are the advanced group and most complex . Human are also belong to Eukaryotes.

Answer: Bacillus. Under starvation conditions this group of bacteria initiates a pathway that leads to endospore formation, a process that is thoroughly studied and is a model system for prokaryotic development and differentiation. Spores are highly resistant to heat, cold, dessication, radiation, and disinfectants, and enable the organism to persist in otherwise inhospitable environments. Under more inviting conditions the spores germinate to produce vegetative cells. Bacillus anthracis. This organism was the first to be shown to cause disease by Dr. Robert Koch, leading to the formulation of Koch's postulates, which were verified by Dr. Louis Pasteur (the organism, isolated from sick animals, was grown in the laboratory and then used to infect healthy animals and make them sick). This organism was also the first for which an attenuated strain was developed as a vaccine. Herbivorous animals become infected with the organism when they ingest spores from the soil whereas humans become infected when they come into contact with a contaminated animal. Anthrax is not transmitted due to person-to-person contact.
