In the context of Database all of you have definitely come across the term “Table” and many more but here it is urged to know the views of students about the statement given as under.

Does the table be called a relation?  Yes/No in either case give your opinion just in two or three lines, exceeding which will be exempted.

 

Read the following instructions carefully before sending your comments:

 

1.      Your discussion must be based on logical facts and in depth knowledge of topic is must for that.

2.      Your comments should be relevant to the topic i.e. clear and concise.

A RelationalDatabase is a database constituting a set of relations (usually erroneously referred to as "tables"[1]). A relation is a set of tuples (a.k.a. "records"), a tuple being a set of attribute values, each attribute being identified by its name (and not by any ordinal position)

• A relational database is a collection of time-varying, normalized relations of assorted degrees.
  
  
• The following intiutitve correspondence can be made:
  
  1. A relation is a file
  2. Each file contains only one record type
  3. The records have no particular order 
  4. Every field is single-valued
  5. The records have a unique identifying field or composite field, called the primary key field.

a relation is may be a table but we can'ot say that table is a relation always.

Because, a Relation is an un-ordered set of values and cannot have duplicates. But in a Table one can have duplicates and other anomalies.

a relation is may be a table but we cannot say that table is a relation always.

Because, a Relation is an un-ordered set of values and cannot have duplicates. But in a Table one can have duplicates and other anomalies.
