Conceptual database designs is used to define the objects and relations between them. ER diagram is best suited for defining relation and there respective functions. This model is flexible enough to bear a change with out any harm to other data's structure. ER data base model represent association. which is needed to define relations.

Logical database model is some what advanced of this model. In this model you need to define keys, attributes, behaviors and foregn keys to be inherit and possible representation which can be converted into physical data models. here we do not need association and other functionalities thats why we did not use ER diagrams.

The Entity-Relationship Model is a conceptual data model that views the real world as consisting of entities and relationships. The model visually represents these concepts by the Entity-Relationship diagram. The basic constructs of the ER model are entities, relationships, and attributes. Entities are concepts, real or abstract, about which information is collected. Relationships are associations between the entities. Attributes are properties which describe the entities. Next, we will look at the role of data modeling in the overall database design process and a method for building the data model. To proceed, see Data Modeling As Part of Database Design.
A conceptual model may include a few significant attributes to augment the definition and visualization of entities. No effort need be made to inventory the full attribute population of such a model. A conceptual model may have some identifying concepts or candidate keys noted but it explicitly does not include a complete scheme of identity, since identifiers are logical choices made from a deeper context.

A logical entity-relationship model is provable in the mathematics of data science. Given the current predominance of relational databases, logical models generally conform to relational theory. Thus a logical model contains only fully normalized entities. Some of these may represent logical domains rather than potential physical tables
ER Model for Conceptual Design

In 1976, Chen developed the Entity-Relationship (ER) model, a high-level data model that is useful in developing a conceptual design for a database. Creation of an ER diagram, which is one of the first steps in designing a database, helps the designer(s) to understand and to specify the desired components of the database and the relationships among those components. An ER model is a diagram containing entities or "items", relationships among them, and attributes of the entities and the relationships.
To make the description of the model more complete, we consider the example of a physics department at a college that maintains a database of experimental results. Throughout a laboratory, students collaborate and share their results and access data sets from other semesters on a computer system. For example, in the laboratory session on "Freely Falling Objects with Significant Drag," students determine the drag coefficient by dropping dust balls from different heights and measuring the times they take to fall. Each team enters its results into the distributed database, and the class analyzes the data. After a team enters data into the web-accessed database, all students can obtain the measurements simultaneously. To simplify the analysis, we assume that the database only stores results related to this experiment over a period of several years.Conceptual database designs is used to define the objects and relations between them. ER diagram is best suited for defining relation and there respective functions. This model is flexible enough to bear a change with out any harm to other data's structure. ER data base model represent association. which is needed to define relations.

Logical database model is some what advanced of this model.
