The assignment is copied. Note that strict action would be taken if the submitted assignment is copied from any other student. Both students will be punished severely.
1) You should consult recommended books to clarify your concepts as handouts are not sufficient.
2) You are supposed to submit your assignment in .doc or docx format. Any other formats like scan images, PDF, Zip, rar, bmp etcwill not be accepted.
3) You are advised to upload your assignment at least two days before due date.
Assignment comprises of 20 Marks. Note that no assignment will be accepted after due date via email in any case (whether it is the case of load shedding or emergency electric failure or internet malfunctioning etc.). Hence, refrain from uploading assignment in the last hour of the deadline, and try to upload Solutions at least 02 days before the deadline to avoid inconvenience later on.

What percentage (%) of the time will a 10 MIPS CPU spend in the busy wait loop of an 50- character line printer, when it takes 1msec to print a character and a total of 415 instructions need to be executed to print an 50character line. Let us assume that, threeinstructions are executed in the polling loop.
A CD-ROM drive with a maximum transfer rate of 2Mbyte/sec is connected to a 64-bit, 20MIPS CPU operating at a clock frequency of 300MHz.Suppose that, the I/O interface is DMA(Direct Memory Access) based and it takes 200 clock cycles for the CPU to set-up the DMA controller. Further, assume that the interrupt handling process at the end of the DMA transfer takes an additional 400 CPU clock cycles. If the data transfer is done using 8 KB blocks, calculate the percentage of the CPU time consumed in handling the CD-ROM drive.
How many platters are required for a 120 GB disk if there are 2048 bytes/sector, 3072 sectors per track and 5120 tracks per platter?
