Objective: To learn and understand the basic concepts of Object Oriented Design using UML.

Instructions:

It should be clear that your assignment will not get any credit (zero marks) if:

    The assignment is submitted after due date.

    The submitted assignment does not open or file corrupt.

    The assignment is copied (from other student or copy from handouts or internet).

You are advised to please upload the assignment in MS Word format only   (other formats i.e

.pdf, images etc. will not be accepted.). You may draw the diagram in MS Visio or any other related

tool and copy it into MS Word.            

 

 

 

 

 

Suppose you are working as Domain Analyst in a renowned software house ABC. You have been given a task to model requirements for a software project i.e POS System.

Scenario:

A POS (Point-Of-Sale) system is a computer system typically used to manage sales in retail stores. It includes hardware components such as a computer, a bar code scanner, a printer and also software to manage the operations of the store.

The basic function of a POS system is to handle sales. When a customer arrives at a POS counter with some products to purchase, the cashier will start a new sale transaction. When the barcode of a product is read by the POS system, it will retrieve the name and price of this product from the backend inventory system and deduce the stock amount of this product. When the sale transaction is over, the customer can pay in cash or via Debit Card. After the payment is successful, a receipt will be printed. 

Work flow of the system is as follows:

 

 

  1.  Cashier Starts Sales Transaction
  2.  Reads bar code using bar code scanner
  3.  Retrieve name and price from  barcode
  4.  Repeat 2 and 3 for all products
  5.  Compute Total
  6.  Manage Payments
  7.  Deduce stock amount of product from Inventory System
  8.  Print Receipt
  9.  Close Transaction

 

 

Use Case Diagram for POS System

 

 

Question Statement:

In Assignment No.2,   you are  required to draw a Class  Diagram (1-page) of the above scenario  by

identifying classes, its attributes and related functions. You have to show the relationship among different classes like Composition, Aggregation, Inheritance and Association. 

Your  solution  must  conform  to  the  concepts  of Object  Oriented  Design  paradigm  like Abstraction, Coupling, Cohesion, Encapsulation etc. 

HINT: 

Assignment No.1 and its Solution will provide you the basis to solve this assignment#2. Lecture No.15 to onwards will be helpful for you to develop a strategy about how to find out classes, attributes, functions, relationship etc. for Object Model. 

Deadline:

Your assignment must be uploaded/submitted on or before 30-06- 2016.

EXPLANATION:

  1. Inheritance : There are many employees are working under the organization manager or cashier are child as employee (parent)
  2. Aggregation: Many workers (cashier, store keeper etc ) are under the Manger.
  3. Association: The manger or any other staff member is associated with swipe card to enter the organization.
  4. Composition: Manager will be successful if increase the no. of sales and increase the no. of sales is depend on the working of manager.
  5. Encapsulation: The network devices like Ethernet card, router also based on encapsulation strategies.
  6. Abstraction: The predefined of encapsulation is called abstraction or (thoughts).
  7. Cohesion: POS system. Combine sale inventory management into cohesive unit, when sale is finalized the computer automatically deduce the sold items from store inventory.

Coupling: The devices communicably coupled to various transaction system. via communication network.
