Consider a computer network of a social networking web site in which 7 routers are connected with each other using a dedicated wired point to point link. Each link is of 5 meters and cost of wire is 100 PKR per meter.

Here is the solution to this assignment:

No. of Links = n(n-1)/2

just insert the given values and get the right answer

but brother this formula apply only in mesh topology where routers are not required but in the assignment routers links are mentioned we have to calculate the links through routers what do you suggest

Dear Saad,

A network topology can include any network devices viz PCs, switches, firewalls, routers etc.

let us solve one as an example:
suppose we have 5 routers in a mesh and we have to find the number of links:

no. links= n(n-1)/2

= 5(5-1)/2 = 10 links

is it right for both questions in our assignment??

This is just to count the no. of links..

For Cost, its simple maths.. :)
