Q1). Name the three perceptual terms for describing color and the corresponding physical properties of light.
Q2). Name the two kinds of receptor cells in retina and describe their basic function.
Q3). What is the difference between a local illumination model and a global illumination model?
Q4). Suppose we want to apply the logical AND operation to combine the original color of the object and the color of texture map. We found that if original color is white then the texture area with magenta shades remain unaltered. But in case of yellow as original color, it (texture area with magenta shades) take on red shades. What is the reason?

Q no.1). Name the three perceptual terms for describing color and the corresponding physical properties of light.
Color can be described in three ways. By name, by purity, and by value or lightness.
Although pink, crimson, and brick are all variations of the color red, each hue is distinct and differentiated by its chroma, saturation, intensity, and value.
Chroma, intensity, saturation and luminance/value are inter-related terms and have to do with the description of a color.
Chroma: How pure a hue is in relation to gray
Saturation: The degree of purity of a hue.
Intensity: The brightness or dullness of a hue. One may lower the intensity by adding white or black.
Luminance / Value: A measure of the amount of light reflected from a hue. Those hues with a high content of white have a higher luminance or value.
Shade and tint are terms that refer to a variation of a hue.
Shade: A hue produced by the addition of black.
Tint: A hue produced by the addition of white.
Physical properties of light
Light consists of photons “particles” with no mass which travel at the speed of light. They have energy, and one measure of this energy is the “wavelength” of the light.
To a very good approximation, light travels in straight lines, and behaves much like a particle. (In some circumstances, light has wave properties interference and diffraction effects but these are rarely important in computer graphics.)
Light may be “bent” or refracted in transparent substances, and the degree of bending, or refraction, depends upon a quantity called the refractive index.
When light is incident on a shiny, flat surface, it is reflected. The reflected light leaves the surface at an angle such that the angle between the incident light and a normal to the surface is equal to the same angle for the reflected light.

There are two types of receptor cells in the retina are rods and cones.
Rods are responsible for vision at low light levels. They do not mediate color vision, and have a low spatial acuity.
Cones are active at higher light levels are capable of color vision and are responsible for high spatial acuity. The central fovea is populated exclusively by cones. There are 3 types of cones which we will refer to as the short-wavelength sensitive cones, the middle-wavelength sensitive cones and the long-wavelength sensitive cones or S-cone, M-cones, and L-cones for short.
Qno.3).What is the difference between a local illumination model and a global illumination model?
Local Illumination Models
■ Model source from a light reflected once off a surface towards the eye
■ Indirect light is included with an ad hoc “ambient” term which is normally constant across the scene
Global Illumination Models
■ Ray tracing or radiosity (both are incomplete)
■ Try to measure light propagation in the scene
■ Model interaction between objects and other objects and objects and their environment
