Dear Students,

Assignment 3 is announced on LMS. Deadline of assignment is July 30, 2015 (Thursday) with bonus day on July 31, 2015 (Friday). No assignment is accepted via email in any case after deadline. 
You have to submit your assignment in Power Point Slideshow i.e. PPS / PPSX formats. All other formats are considered as incorrect and marked as zero straight away. 

Task 1: [Marks = 3 + 2 + 5 = 10]

Write a C program using TurboC Compiler


a – Read and Print extended partition information using 13H service for total number of tracks, sectors and heads.

b – Read and Print LBA (Logical Block Address)

c – Calculate and Print CHS by writing function calc_chs(). Input parameters in ‘task a’ to the function calc_chs.


Task 2: [Marks = 2 + Task 1 Marks + 3 + 5]

A presentation is required that contains slides having detail as described below;


ü  Your 1st slide contains your VU ID, Name, Course name and title (that is CS609)

ü  2nd slide shows your code in text form. (Use multiple slides if your code is not covered in one slide)

ü  3rd slide contains screen shot of output window showing required output of Task 1

ü  4th and last slide is showing functionality of function calc_chs()

ü  Attach a voice clip in 4th slide that describe the functionality of calc_chs function. The clip length should not be more than 3 minutes.


Task 3: [Marks = 5]

You have to convert your ppt slides into power point slideshow file (PPS / PPSX).

functionality of function calc_chs() kiya ha kisi ko pata ha tu bata day 

The partition table data entry also stores the CHS address of the starting block. But this address is left insignificant if a LBA enable disk is in question. However LBA address can be used in place of the CHS address, and in case CHS address is required it can be calculated if the total number of tracks, sectors and heads are known. To get the total number of tracks, sectors and head the above described service can be used.

LBA to CHS translation

• Conversely LBA address can be translated into CHS address cylinder = LBA / (heads_per_cylinder * sectors_per_track)
temp = LBA % (heads_per_cylinder * sectors_per_track)
head = temp / sectors_per_track sector = temp % sectors_per_track+ 1

A = (c ⋅ Nheads + h) ⋅ Nsectors + (s − 1),

where A is the LBA address, Nheads is the number of heads on the disk, Nsectors is the number of sectors per track, and (chs) is the CHS address.

VULMS is not working giving this error "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable."
