GBD Dated: Aug 01, 16
Dear Students,

Graded Discussion Board for the course 'Software Project Management (CS615)' will be open on Thursday 11 Aug, 2016 and it will be closed on Friday 12 Aug, 2016.

Objective:

You will learn how to solve a question accurately and precisely. You will learn how to extract useful information from a given lecture to prepare for exams. You will get confidence to prepare for exams. Irrelevant/ambiguous/incomplete answers in the exams will reduce at some extent that will increase students learning. You will learn how to grasp latest knowledge.

GDB Topic

Consider an example that a Project Manager has assigned a task to generate progress report of any module. He will first go to the Requirement Manager and collect the SRS of that module and analyze them. Some problem was found he reports to QA Manager to check the details. QA Manager checks it and assign task to developer. Now developer corrects the bugs at development end and designer correct front end issues. Now developer sends reports to QA Manager to finalize it. QA Manager finally reports to Project Manager and then progress report is generated.
PERT and CPM, both techniques have some common components including Activity, Node, Network and Critical Path. Choose the suitable component for above scenario and justify your propose components with at least three solid arguments.

please solved these question
CS615

Question 1
Suppose you are working on a project as a project manager .what method will you follow as the project manager to track the progress of your project during the development phase?
Question 2
The key idea in risk management is not to wait for a risk to metalize and become a problem but ensure that for each perceive risk, you know well in advance how to tackle it. List the risk management process. 3

Question 3
Team oriented approach to requirements gathering that is applied during early stages of analysis and specification is called Facilitated application specification technique (FAST) List at least three guidelines for the FAST and also write at least four goals of using FAST.

Question 4
Work Break Down Structure (WBS) is consider as mandatory management tool ,how you can differentiate high quality WBS from one with low quality (5)

Question 5
Risk mitigation and risk monitoring are two different processes. Differentiate between these two and also describe the initial objectives of risk monitoring. (5)

Question 6
Being a project manager can you consider Work Break Down Structure (WBS) as task list. Justify your answer and if you convert WBS in to “ to do “ task list, then how it will effect task list, scope and WBS. (5)

Activity is its answer,

Don't copy/paste just take the understanding what i have typed down and write in  your own words.

as per definition

activity: the actual performance of a task which consumes time and requires resources (such as labor, materials, space, machinery). It can be understood as representing the time, effort, and resources required to move from one event to another. A PERT activity cannot be performed until the predecessor event has occurred.

and if u look into your GDB then yeh statement validate hoti hy " A PERT activity cannot be performed until the predecessor event has occurred."

QA Manager can't send reports to Project Manager UNTIL

developer sends reports to QA Manager to finalize it and it can't be done UNTIL

developer and designer correct issues and it can't be done UNTIL

QA Manager checks it and assign task to developer and so ON.

hmmm i think crtical path syi ans ha...bcz is me btaya ha k kon c activity delay ho ri ha kisi problm ki wja se,,, r q ho ri ha...phr jo problm a ri ha use solve krne ki try krte hn ta k delay wrk syi tym pr ho jye....

r gdb me b yhi ha k reports se phle kch issues hn jis ki wja se delay ho ri ha report r us ko door kiya ja rha ha QA se...

r ACTIVITY me sb strtng wle wrks hn... report ni..

so i thnk "CRITICAL PATH" is the correct ans...

ab syi bta de koi...

I think you Misinterpret  "Consider an example that a Project Manager has assigned a task to generate progress report of any module." This means the software development report of particular module which is developed in crystal report or jasper report etc. THis is not progress report of Project Managment like dealy in project.

look at next phrase

"He will first go to the Requirement Manager and collect the SRS of that module and analyze them"

It clearly says that PM is checking SRS what was requiement which is missed.

So Critical Path is not answer.

Activity is the answer which i explained earlier

i think activity is right answer...

as per handout

Activities
Activities are the basic building blocks of network schedules. An activity is
defined as a task that consumes time, effort, money, or any other resource. It is
necessary to specify all the activities of a project by breaking down a project into several steps. You need to define the steps in such a way that they are distinct, homogeneous tasks for which you can estimate resource requirements. Each activity is represented on a network schedule by using an arrow with its head indicating the direction in which the project will progress. Each activity is identified by a description or an alphabet. In addition, the estimated duration of each activity is placed below the activity. Figure 5 shows an activity with expected duration of 15 days. After identifying all the activities in a project, it is necessary to schedule them.
This enables you to arrange the activities in the order of completion. You
sequence the activities based on their types. The different activities that are possible in a project are predecessor, successor,
and concurrent activities. Predecessor activities need to end before the next can begin. After a predecessor
activity is completed, the successor activity becomes the predecessor for another activity. However, unlike the predecessor arid successor activities, the concurrent activities can be completed simultaneously with other activities. Some activities in a project, irrespective of whether they are predecessor, successor, or concurrent, may depict a float period. Float is the amount of time by which an activity may be delayed without affecting the completion date of the entire project. However, the complex dependencies that exist between activities result in sequencing constraints for projects. To a large extent, these constraints limit the flexibility that you may otherwise have in project planning.

Brother what about cost?????? in GDB it is showing a inner activity. Please elaborate it thanks.

Please Discuss here about this GDB.Thanks
