Bangladesh (East Pakistan) got separated from Pakistan (West Pakistan) in 1971 as an independent state. Both countries were part of a single country though more than 1,000 miles apart, with economic and political powers concentrated in West Pakistan. Both are Islamic countries, located in the South Asian region, and were both once part of the colonial British Raj of India. In 2009, Pakistan and Bangladesh had about the same population, 181 million in Pakistan and 162 million in Bangladesh.
There are several common cultural, demographical, social and economic factors in both countries. Following table represents the data on different social and economic indicators.

Being a student of development economics, read the case study and analyze the economic situation of both countries, make appropriate comparisons on economic growth and major social indicators i-e education, health, poverty situations of both countries. Are both economies (Bangladesh and Pakistan) convergent or divergent to each other? Discuss.
Note: Case study of “Comparative Economic Development: Pakistan and Bangladesh” is given in the text book of M.P. Todaro and has also been discussed in video lecture # 04 and handouts of lesson #4. Read that case study very carefully for solving this assignment.
Write your answer to the point, avoid irrelevant and extra details.
