A criterion-referenced test is one that provides for translating test scores into a statement about the behavior to be expected of a person with that score or their relationship to a specified subject matter. Most tests and quizzes that are written by school teachers can be considered criterion-referenced tests. The objective is simply to see whether the student has learned the material.
1. In Norm Referred Test, we make results focused on the basis of score while criteria referred test depends on the performance of the students e.g. in norm assessment, we assess students on basis of their scores in exams but in criterion based assessment, result is made on the basis of the students’ performance throughout the academic year like class participation, performance in weekly/monthly quizzes and assignments and midterm/final exam scores etc.
