Solution File :.

  1. 1.      Being a teacher, what pedagogical principles should you apply in the classroom? Please share an example.                                                                               (5 marks)

Pedagogical principles to teach English to a class will be:

-          Teacher must be readers

-          Assist the students in reading

-          Speak in English at all times

-          Motivate the students to learn English

Provide the students with model reading. It could be a dialogue, poem or literature. Ask the students the questions related to the text provided. Motivate them to answer in English. For example:

Developing reading skill:

While giving a text to read, I will assess prior knowledge of the students on the text. Provide the meaning of the key vocabulary. After reading, both will reflect on the content of the text. Assessment will be through general comprehension activity, vocabulary development activity or content representation through mapping.

  1. 2.      Please share an example of how prior knowledge of students affects their learning. You can chose any subject and grade level.                                          (5 marks)

The prior knowledge of students’ affects their learning therefore educators must keep this in mind when they design a lesson. Teachers need to be aware of children’s prior or existing ideas, of the learning goals and the nature of the difference between the two when they are planning and teaching so that they can take appropriate steps to bridge the gap. Children develop ideas, based on their everyday experiences, about natural phenomena before they are taught Science in school. \

For example the concept of friction is easier for the students to understand as they experience it in their own life. They throw the ball it stops at a certain point and they slip on a wet floor because of the laws of friction.

  1. 3.      Knowledge is only useful when we know how to apply it in real world settings. Can you justify it as a teacher. Please share one example.                                    (5 marks)

-          Students often focus on superficial features instead of the underly...

-          Students have learned the individual skill or piece of knowledge but can’t apply it in complex contexts because they haven’t practiced the skills of integration and synthesis.

-          It is a natural phenomenon that some members of a group are more or less engaged in performing the task at hand (i.e., they were watching or listening without doing). For example, it is not unusual in labs for one member to watch and record as the other makes decisions and takes action. Similarly, in a collaborative design project, despite contributions of ideas from all members of the group, there is typically one person who integrates these ideas and executes the plan.

-          In these cases, the student who is making the decisions and actually completing the task at hand is the one learning the corresponding skills. Hence, this student will be more prepared to apply these skills in other, individually based contexts. The less actively involved students, however, will have missed this practice opportunity and may be less prepared to perform in individually based contexts.

  1. 4.      If you are using discovery based learning, then what would be your role in the classroom as the solution will not be clear to students. Give an example. (5 marks)

The teacher will:

-          Provide the basis for solving a problem

-          List the possible answers

-          Identify the tools and techniques

-          Give basic knowledge needed

-          Break the problem into parts

-          Discover the interest of the students and group them accordingly.

If the solution is not clear yet, they will definitely learn something. All these activities will not go wasted.
