TOPIC:        Conflict and Power OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

 The objective of the activity is to understand the importance of power in conflict situation. LEARNING OUTCOMES After attempting this activity students will be able to;

1. Comprehend the use of power in conflict situation by an organization.

2. Understand the use of different kinds of power and their advantages & disadvantages for organizations.

THE SCENARIO

                      Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), Pakistan International Airline (PIA) and Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), all had been considered as cost-effective public organizations of the state in the past. Till now all these organizations have gone into heavy losses that reached to almost billions of rupees. Government has been providing subsidies in billions of rupees for functioning of these organizations. There are many reasons behind the failure of these organizations. To cut down the losses the Government of Pakistan is trying to bring deregulation policy and structural changes in the organizations but employees, especially middle and lower level, are resisting against these changes. Among various other options the Government is thinking for use of different types of power against the employees to force them to follow the directives.

THE REQUIREMENT

         Being student of Conflict Management subject answer the following questions;

In this conflict sort of situation, according to you which kind of power should be adopted by Government to deal with employees and to put the organizations on right track?            4 Marks

  • How the selected kind of power would be useful for the Government to resolve the problem and also discuss its disadvantages?       6 (3+3) Marks

Please share ideas about the scenario   as mention here is conflict between employees and govt ,as  we knowPIA decided to downsizing last year and employees protested against the  management decision ......... so i think here question arise  how government can deals employees in case of conflict between employees and govt .......
