Dear Students

This is to inform that Assignment No. 1 will be opened on 10th May, 2013 and due date of assignment submission will be 14th May, 2013.

A 24 hours extra/grace period after the due date is usually available to overcome uploading difficulties which may be faced by the students on last date.  This extra time should only be used to meet the emergencies; and above mentioned due date should always be treated as final to avoid any inconvenience.

Important:

To open the assignment file, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader/ PDF Reader installed on your computer.

For acquiring the relevant knowledge, do not rely only on handouts but watch the course video lectures and read additional material available online or in any other mode.

Note related to load shedding: Please be proactive

Dear students!

As you know that Pre Mid-Term semester activities have started and load shedding problem is also prevailing in our country. Keeping in view the fact, you all are advised to post your activities as early as possible without waiting for the due date. For your convenience; activity schedule has already been uploaded on VULMS for the current semester, therefore no excuse will be entertained after due date of assignments, quizzes and GDBs.

Case:
Relationship conflict is a perception of interpersonal incompatibility and includes
annoyance and animosity among members about values, personal or family norms, or
about personal taste.
Mr. Hassan and Mr. Ansir are part of a team of lead trainers at Foster Inc which provides
management trainings and consultation to professional organizations and businesses.
The two trainers are found to be expert in their field and are excellent role models for
the new trainers at Foster Inc. However, the two usually experience task conflict in
acquiring consultancy work from the Boss and it results in relationship conflict. Too
often it becomes a cause of rift between them. The Boss is pretty much annoyed by
their behavior and wants to eradicate the root cause of the source of the conflict
Requirement:
In analyzing the sources of conflict, which category of the sources of conflict exhibit
the relationship of the two trainers? Explain your answer with proper justification. (10
Marks)
What would be the useful approach in handling such conflicts? (10 Marks)

Task conflict

exists within a group or team when there are disagreements among the group members about the tasks being performed. Task conflict arises when the group members have differences in viewpoints, ideas and opinions.

 Useful approach in handling such conflicts

Teamwork and co-operation are essential in an organisation which aims to be effective and efficient, and not likely to be divided by conflicting factions. The best teamwork usually comes from having a shared vision or goal, so that leaders and members are all committed to the same objectives and understand their roles in achieving those objectives. Important behaviours in achieving teamwork and minimising potential conflict include a commitment by team members to:

  • share information by keeping people in the group up-to-date with current issues
  • express positive expectations about each other
  • empower each other - publicly crediting colleagues who have performed well and encouraging each other to achieve results
  • team-build - by promoting good morale and protecting the group's reputation with outsiders
  • resolve potential conflict - by bringing differences of opinion into the open and facilitating resolution of conflicts
