The Scenario
In our daily lives, we sometimes damage our relationships with our dear ones due to differences
of opinions. Mr. Ali is working in PTCL, one of organizations in Telecom sector. Mr. Ali sits
beside his colleague, Mr. Ahmad, with whom he usually has small talks over various issues. Few
days ago, both colleagues had clash with each other on the current political situation of country
(Ali and Ahmed both have different political parties’ affiliations). The minor issue turned into
major one and they fought with each other in front of other colleagues. On this issue none of
them is ready to listen each other.
The Requirement
1. You are required to identify and discuss the type of conflict emerged between Ali and
Ahmad. (2+3 marks)
2. Which technique of ADR would be more suitable in this situation to resolve the conflict?
Generate at least three arguments to support your stance. (2+3 marks)

The type of conflict that exists between Ali and Ahmad is “Interpersonal Conflict”.

Interpersonal Conflict:

Interpersonal conflict exists when person or group of people frustrates or interferes in another person’s efforts at achieving goal. Some researches indicates that this type of conflict can exists due to three types of components, those components are,
“Behavioral component”, “Cognitive Component” and “Affective Component”

Technique of ADR that is more suitable to resolve this to resolve this conflict is “Negotiation Technique”.

Negotiation:
Negotiation is a voluntary discussion between two or more people with the purpose of reaching an agreement through informal and unstructured discussions. Broadly speaking, successful negotiators usually focuses on problem solving and trying to please the interests of both parties without concluding who is right and who is wrong.

Arguments:

It includes the process of resolving disputes, agreeing upon courses of action, bargaining for individual or cooperative advantage, or crafting outcomes to satisfy different interests. Negotiation is thus a form of alternative dispute resolution. Negotiation involves two basic elements: the process and the substance. The process refers to how the parties negotiate the context of the negotiation.

In the process of negotiation, the parties remain in control of the end result, no result is forced on the parties, and parties are free to walk away from the process at any time.  Furthermore, although participants often utilize attorneys skilled in problem-solving to correspond to their interests in negotiation. Negotiation is particularly valuable in situations where future interactions between the parties are pleasing because negotiation is less challenging.

Negotiation helps you to accomplish your goal without hurting others. Negotiation is imperative at every stage of life in corporate as well as personal lives to ensure peace and happiness.
