Being a powerful disputant in an interpersonal conflict situation, will you prefer to follow ‘Contrient Interdependence’ or ‘Promotive Interdependence’ while resolving the conflict with the other party? Discuss with reasons.

Do not give definitions/ general explanations of interdependent relationships. You are supposed to justify your choice with solid arguments how this/these will be helpful in team harmony and productivity.

Disputants
In the interpersonal conflict, those who have incompatible goals are called disputants.
Disputants may be individuals, groups, corporations, congregations, communities, nations, or any collective of people.

Interdependent Relationship
a. Contrient interdependence
Defined – meeting one party’s goals is seen to harm the other party’s goals.
Zero-sum situations are those seen by the parties as perfectly contrient – the more one party is benefited the more the other is harmed. In other words, benefit “sums to zero.”
b. Promotive interdependence
Interdependence may also be positive (known as “promotive interdependence”).
Defined – meeting one party’s goals is seen to promote the other party’s goals
Virtually all conflicts combine promotive and contrient interdependence.
An interpersonal conflict in which both the promotive and contrient aspects of interdependence are recognized is known as a “mixed-motive” situation.

Being a power disputant in an interpersonal conflict, I will to follow Promotive interdependence while resolving the conflict with the other party.

The big reason behind this is that, due to this strategy, no party will suffer by the decision of the disputant.

By this strategy, the chances of dispute to happen again will decrease, because by the contrient interdependence, one party will take advantage and the other suffers. So in this way clash remains in the hearts of other party after resolution of dispute as well. But by proomotive interdependence both parties will not suffer by the decision of disputant and clash will never remain in the hearts of both parties.

In this way, the circumstances at work place will remain good.

So I will use promotive interdependence to resolve conflict as powerful disoutant.
