Role of Parents.

Parents are that blessing of Allah SWT which has no substituted. There are many Verses of Holy Quran and Sayings of Holy Prophet SAW regarding their respect and status. Scholars are preaching these verses and sayings from years but when we look in our society, attitude of children and young’s towards their parents; we feel parent’s dissatisfaction from their children end.

And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.

Q: Role of Parents, and which could be the main reason for parent’s dissatisfaction from their children? Discuss.

The majority of parents and adult children experience some tension and aggravation with one another.

Allah creates the children with pure innate nature, without defects and whatever defects that happens later on is the result of the bad education. Imam Bukhari and Muslim reported that the Prophet (P.B.U.H.) said, "Every new born has the correct instinct, his parents make him Jewish, Christian or a fire worshipper."

From the moment a child is born, parents wonder (and worry) about the role they will play in shaping their child’s outlook on life. Researches show how peers, school, community and – hugely important – parents, together influence and mutually reinforce the social attitudes and aspirations of children and young people. Attitudes are transferred from parent to child.

The quality of the parent-child relationship is affected by the parent's age, experience, and self-confidence; the stability of the parents' marriage; and the unique characteristics of the child compared with those of the parent. The relationship with parents is a key predictor of wellbeing. Socialization is an important part of the parent-child relationship. High levels of family harmony, along with parents who are supportive and willing to grant autonomy to their children.

Parenting has four main styles: authoritarian, authoritative, permissive (indulgent), and detached. Although no parent is consistent in all situations.

1- Authoritarian parents are rigid in their rules; they expect absolute obedience from the child without any questioning

Children raised with this parenting style are often moody, unhappy, fearful, and irritable.

2- Authoritative parents show respect for the opinions of each of their children by allowing them to be different. Authoritative parents are both responsive and demanding; they are firm, but they discipline with love and affection, rather than power.

This style of parenting often results in children who have high self-esteem and are independent, inquisitive, happy, assertive, and interactive.

3- Permissive (indulgent) parents have little or no control over the behavior of their children.

Children of permissive parents may be disrespectful, disobedient, aggressive, irresponsible, and defiant.

4- Finally, Disengaged (detached) parents are neither responsive nor demanding. They may be careless or unaware of the child's needs for affection and discipline. Children whose parents are detached have higher numbers of psychological difficulties and behavior problems than other youngsters.

Islam does not distinguish between male and female with regard to the Education requirements. Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H.) said, ''whoever had a daughter, tutored her on good morals, educated her well and fed her properly; she will be a protection for him from hell fire." What do we mean by good education? The good education means the physical, mental and moral preparation of the child so he can become a good individual in the good society.

In my opinion, children’s behavior and psychological development are linked to the parenting style with which they are raised. Parents bear the responsibility to raise-up their children in the Islamic way. If they do that they will be blessed in this life and in the hereafter, and if they don't, they will get bad result during their life and in the hereafter.
