The media are more dependent on society than society is on the media, one could argue against this. I mean, without the media society would struggle for day-to-day news, entertainment etc but it would still be a live society whereas without a society with people of different social categories and class there would be no media since the media survive off of society.
In conclusion I think the media reflect upon society to determine how it shapes certain parts of it. All of society aren't shaped by media, most are just affected which may change the way they act, dress, speak...just a part of their life. Media is so common in our contemporary society that one way or another our lives are going to be affected by this unless of course you deprive yourself from technology or the outside world and even then, would they be classed as a part of society at all.
