ASSIGNMENT # 1 FALL 2016
Q1. Keeping in mind the above assumptions, critically evaluate Pakistani society. Do you think we are living in mass society?
ANS: Keeping in view the above assumptions we can critically evaluate Pakistani society in the following way:
Mass audience is widely dispersed:
~ Mass audience is widely dispersed but in Pakistan only few people have those technologies through which mass communication is possible i.e. in villages; there is still lack of technologies and people do not have the information about those technologies also.
Mass audience is non-interactive and innovative:
~ Mass audience is not non-interactive in Pakistan because now the new technologies like interactive TVs and radio calls make the audience interactive. People in Pakistan mostly rely on readymade things and so they are not innovative as the other developing countries.
Mass audience is heterogeneous and not organized:
~ In Pakistan the mass audience is not heterogeneous and non-organized. Mass audience in Pakistan has the same interest to live independently and united in the nation and they are organized in the same pattern.
Mass media is responsible for all the evils so, it should be wiped off or controlled strictly:
~ Mass media is not responsible for all the evils. It is up to the audience that what they want to watch and what they should watch. Mass media is just performing its job.
Mass media has very powerful effect and all that effect is negative:
~ All effects of mass media are not negative. One should see the positive side of the picture also that mass media is making people up-to-date and industrial.
People are helpless beings and they are being manipulated by media:
~ Media helped people a lot in every field. Whether it is war or everyday life tips when people get tips of health and life.
People are more dependent on media than their own families and friends.
~ Media just entertain people in the free time of the people or give news to them about the world. It is up to the audience that where they want to spend their time.
Q1. PART 2
Yes we live in a mass society. As people of our society are heavily depend on media regarding their lives. People who are in politics use media to give their point of view to the mass audience and people of our society watch everything through media and judge the politicians that which party is right and which is wrong. People living in our society are affecting their lives a lot from the media. They mostly take decisions for their lives by observing media. As a matter of fact public social bonds are now getting week than before. As society is getting modern and industrial they have less time to spend with friends and family. Our society is becoming more modern and industrial in every field of life through mass media. Before some decades there was a tradition of single member worker in a short family. But now women also participating in doing job and that is just because of industrial development of our society. Children of our society know more about the new technologies than before. So by taking these things into consideration we can say that we live in a mass society.
Q2. Do you think that media has changed Pakistani society from traditional to modern industrial society. Give one example from everyday life?
ANS: Yes for sure, media has changed the Pakistani society from traditional to modern industrial society because before media, Pakistan was a traditional society as a whole. It wasn’t aware of the modern industrial theme of the world but now we can see the change of society everywhere in Pakistan. By media it is now common for women to go outside the houses and work with men. And that was considered bad before the advent of media. Media has broadened the minds of people. Women are now more independent than before. We can see women in every field, as a doctor, engineer, teacher, anchor, actor, host etc. There are still those locations in Pakistan where the media hasn’t spread yet, such as villages where the new technologies are still not available. People at those places are still narrow mind and think that there is a big difference in working of a man and working of a woman, which is wrong actually. But people who are facilitated with media are aware about that a developing country needs women to work for their nation and to earn by their own. And through this one would never depend upon man for any sort of expenditure. ________________________________________________________________________
