Assignment # 2

An FMCG, named Alda, has allocated a big budget for promotion of a recently launched product which is a multipurpose wet tissue. Alda  is of the view that mass  marketing  will create awareness of the product in the market which would eventually cause increase in sales. It believes in taking high risk on innovative products while focusing at high return.

Another company, named Ben, has also launched a new product, which is extra absorbent diaper for adults. Ben is of the view that being price competitive would earn competitive advantage in the market. It believes in focusing on a particular segment of the market and being efficient at the same time. Efficiency, according to Ben, is the key.  Ben believes in spending on the technological needs which would ultimately lead to efficiency.


Keeping in view the strategic types of organizations as given by Miles and Snow, i.e. Defenders, Prospectors, Analyzers and Reactors, which strategic type are both these companies? Justify.
