Organizational Development via Action Research
Action Research and Organizational Development describes a process of change that encourages research and consulting skills. In this process, research data about an organization or culture is systematically collected to develop an understanding of the needs, issues and problems.
The information provides the impetus for focusing the change and making discoveries. This work describes the characteristics of the action research process and the procedure for its implementation. This particular type of applied social research differs from other varieties in the immediacy of the researcher's involvement and collaboration in each stage of researching, focusing, and implementing. The work describes the continuous process of research and learning in relation to the researcher's long-term relationship with a problem or issue.

Thanks Tariq Malik Sb. for opening the discussion for GDB,
Organization development (OD) is a planned, organization-wide effort to increase an organization's effectiveness and/or efficiency and/or to enable the organization to achieve its strategic goals.
Action research is a form of investigation designed for use by employers/employees to attempt to solve problems and improve professional practices in their own organizations. It involves systematic observations and data collection which can be then used by the practitioner-researcher in reflection, decision-making and the development of more effective strategies.

Action research is a research initiated to solve an immediate problem or a reflective process of progressive problem solving led by individuals working with others in teams or as part of a "community of practice" to improve the way they address issues and solve problems.
There are two types of action research: participatory action research, and practical action research.
This is supported by Denscombe (2010, p.6) who states that an action research strategy's purpose is to solve a particular problem and to produce guidelines for best practice.
Action research involves the process of actively participating in an organization change situation whilst conducting research. Action research can also be undertaken by larger organizations or institutions, assisted or guided by professional researchers, with the aim of improving their strategies, practices and knowledge of the environments within which they practice. As designers and stakeholders, researchers work with others to propose a new course of action to help their community improve its work practices.
