The prime objective of this activity is to familiarize students with the traditional expert models of consulting in a practical scenario.




After attempting this activity, students will be able to:

  • Compare and comprehend different Models of consulting with Organizational Development (OD).




Creatix Ltd. is a small manufacturing company which has recently experienced high unscheduled absentees, poor performance of highly efficient workers and low morale of workforce. Company management decided to hire an OD consultant to deal with this issue and suggest changes for improvement.

OD consultant hired by the organization started working with the senior team. He acted as a facilitator by providing the team methodological tools for assessing the problems, diagnosing the strength and weakness of the company, developed some plans to overcome the issues and to achieve the desired goals by attempting to increase their capacity to deal with the problems. The goal of the assigned work, as stated by the OD practitioner, was to “improve the overall effectiveness of the management of the company”.Consulting to organizations can take many forms. Traditional models of consulting are Purchase of expertise model, Doctor-patient model and Process consultation model.




 In your opinion, which specific model in the above cases is adopted by Creatix Ltd.? Support your answer with logical arguments.

Keeping in view the fact, you all are advised to post your activities as early as possible without waiting for the due date. For your convenience; activity schedule has already been uploaded on VULMS for the current semester, therefore no excuse will be entertained after due date of assignments, quizzes or GDBs.

To summarize the important points according to a traditional consulting model approach, we can say that senior management identified some problems in some parts of the organization and hired an expert consultant for the diagnosis of the situation, identify the causes of problems and then prescribe the effective solution to overcome the problems that prevail. This description clearly concludes that the company has used the "doctor-patient model" as a traditional consulting model.
