Objective of GDB

 

The basic objective of this assignment is to make students familiar with concept of Growth strategies.

 

Learning Outcomes

 

After attempting this assignment students will be able to:

  • Understand the different aspects of marketing growth strategies and learn that how companies can use them properly to increase their market share.

 

The Case

 

Companies make strategies to develop their business and increase revenues and profits. However, there are certain approaches companies must use for implementing their growth strategies.  They need to decide to whether penetrate or go for the new products and when to develop the market or diversify.

 

Suppose Vodafone Telecommunication Company is entering the Pakistan’s market and has to face many challenges by already existing big players in the industry such as Mobilink, Ufone, Zong and Telenor. Mobilink being first one to introduce the cellular services in Pakistan holds the major share of the market with a solid customer base and enjoys the first mover advantages as well. Ufone being the major provider with strong attractions for various target markets is also performing well. Zong being the cheapest network with good internet and 4G capabilities has also earned a good piece of market share. Telenor entered the arena with the European label. Having read that, it seems very difficult for the new operator to keep prices low as there are several federal taxes which do not allow new operator to keep its costs lower. Charging higher prices can be more devastating for the company.

 

The only option left for Vodafone is to identify new target markets whose needs are still not being served by other major operators. To achieve this, it has to come up with solid media strategy to target new customers with the same offering.  

Point of discussion:

 

Keeping in view the above scenario, you are required to provide the growth strategy that must be followed by Vodafone to enter Pakistan. Provide at least three arguments for choosing the strategy. (2+3=5 Marks)

Vodafone Telecommunication Company was established in April 2007. No doubt if Vodafone Telecommunication Company enters in Pakistani can face many difficulties and problems in the prances of big players such as Mobilink, Ufone, Zong, etc. If the the Vodafone telecommunication company identify a new target market they should follow different strategies for profit maximization, increase market shares.
Setting a price strategy:
Company face many challenges of setting prices for the first time so the Vodafone company should maintain a price according to the services mostly 2 type of strategies market skimming price and market penetration. In market skimming the company introduce high price because the quality and image of product and services support its high price and people will also ready to buy it due to its qualities. Market penetration proved very helpful for Vodafone success in Pakistan because in this strategy the main purpose of company is to attract the buyers at the low price.
Choose correct media:
It is necessary for Vodafone Company to choose correct media for selling advertisement. Offer the different advantages for consumers and introduce a qualities product and services for consumers. The main purpose of media strategies to achieve the above mentioned targets.
Product expansion:
The Vodafone Company should increase their services not only in urban areas but also rural areas. Provide quality technological services in broad areas in Pakistan at the reasonable charges.
Conclusion:
Strategies are necessary for the success of any company in this way they can achieve their objectives and goals and they can also increase their shares.
