This is to inform that Graded Discussion Board (GDB) No. 02 will be opened on August 03, 2015 for discussion and last date for posting your discussion will be August 05, 2015.

For acquiring the relevant knowledge, do not rely only on handouts but also watch the course video lectures and read additional material available online or in any other mode.

Important Instructions:

 

  • Your discussion must be based on logical facts.
  • The GDB will open and close on above specified date and time. Please note that no grace day or extra time will be given for posting comments on GDB.
  • Use the font style “Times New Roman” and font size “12”.
  • Your answer should be relevant to the topic i.e. clear and concise.
  • Do not copy or exchange your answer with other students. Two identical / copied comments will be marked Zero (0) and may damage your grade in the course.
  • Books, websites and other reading material may be consulted before posting your comments; but copying or reproducing the text from books, websites and other reading materials is strictly prohibited. Such comments will be marked as Zero (0) even if you provide references.
  • You should post your answer on the Graded Discussion Board (GDB), not on the Moderated Discussion Board (MDB). Both will run parallel to each other during the time specified above. Therefore, due care will be needed.
  • Obnoxious or ignoble answer should be strictly avoided.
  • You cannot participate in the discussion after the due date via email.
  • Questions / queries related to the content of the GDB, which may be posted by the students on MDB or via e-mail, will not be replied till the due date of GDB is over.

As you know that Post Mid-Term semester activities have started and load shedding problem is also prevailing in our country. Keeping in view the fact, you all are advised to post your activities as early as possible without waiting for the due date. For your convenience; activity schedule has already been uploaded on VULMS for the current semester, therefore no excuse will be entertained after due date of assignments, quizzes or GDBs.

Brand repositioning is when a company changes a brand's status in the marketplace. This typically includes changes to the marketing mix (product, place, price and promotion). Repositioning is done to keep up with consumer wants and needs  When a company sees a decrease in sales over time and/or major changes coming down the line, they know it is time to implement changes within the company.  The brand repositioning is successful when the business sees steady or increased customer flow. This means the customer base has accepted the changes. Below are some factors that could be included to make a strategy successful.

When consumers become committed to your brand and make repeat purchases over time. Brand loyalty is a result of consumer behavior and is affected by a person's preferences. Loyal customers will consistently purchase products from their preferred brands, regardless of convenience or price. Companies will often use different marketing strategies to cultivate loyal customers, be it is through loyalty programs

  • The student will be able to understand, explain, apply and critically examine the dimensions of brand repositioning.

Scenario:

The Lifebuoy brand has, since 1894, supported people in their quest for better personal hygiene. The classic red bar of Lifebuoy soap and its distinctive medicated carbolic smell has been synonymous with cleanliness throughout the twentieth century. The desire to be clean, active and healthy is intrinsic to every one irrespective of age or economic status. Lifebuoy understands this need and champions the cause for hygiene and health around the world.

 

Initially since 1894 Lifebuoy soap has no other variant, but considering the current consumer needs and branding trends Lifebuoy brand has repositioned itself and introduced new variants of soaps in 2004 with entirely different, shape, size, color, packaging and fragrances. Not only has this but Lifebuoy has changed marketing, and distribution channels strategy as well in order to cover maximum area of the market. Today, the Lifebuoy brand is more than the quintessential bar of red soap, and provides hygiene and health for the entire family through a range of products like liquid hand wash and specially designed body wash.
