Title: Line and Staff Aspects of HRM
With the advent of time, specialized services are required in organizations to carry out the line functions effectively. Line managers are authorized to work directly towards the accomplishment of the organizational mission, whereas staff managers are authorized to assist and advise line managers in achieving the basic goals. HR managers, marketing managers, and accounts managers are generally staff managers.
All managers are in a sense human resource manager because line managers also perform some of the staff functions such as placing the right person for the right job, improving job performance, interpreting policies & procedures, and protecting employees’ health and physical condition etc. Coordination between line and staff authorities is the key to execute human resource functions effectively.
Keeping in view the overlapping of various HR functions between staff and line managers, discuss the possibility of line staff conflict with the help of example and the ways to mitigate it.
For acquiring the relevant knowledge, do not rely only on handouts but also watch the course video lectures and read additional material available online or in any other mode.
