Topic/Area for Discussion

 “Performance Appraisal and Career Progression”

Due Date: January 25, 2016

                                                                                          Total Marks : 5

Scenario:

Ms. Ayesha has been working in the administration of a hospital for the last four years.  According to the rules of service, she is due for a promotion at the end of the year.  Her annual performance review is good and the department members all agree that she is a supportive and hard-working individual.

However, when the promotions are announced Ayesha finds that Mr. Ali, a person with just two years of experience in the position has been promoted over her.  When she went to the HR department, she was told that Mr. Ali was promoted because of his higher qualification.  However, the HR manager also said that it would be difficult for the department members to accept a female in a higher position of authority anyway and she should not take this as a reflection of her competence.

Questions:

1- Do you think this decision was fair and the reasoning of the HR manager justified?

2- Justify your answer with reasonable arguments.

DECISION WAS’T FAIR
Decision of the management and reasoning of the HR manager was not fair just like
1. “The HR manager said that it would be difficult for the department to accept a female in higher position of authority”
This statement of HR manager creates Gender discrimination and also increase de-motivation in loyal employees.
Mr. Ali was promoted just because of his qualification, qualification not only indicator to promote someone. Experience, human behavior and team work is also important. If management of Hospital can’t promote female on higher position then management should not hire females into the administration.
DECISION WAS FAIR
Decision was fair but the justification of the HR manager “Management can’t accept Female in higher position” is not fair.
Qualification of the current era is most important especially in a hospital because if an employee is qualified can introduce new ideas and innovation. Qualified employee gets things fast. Experience of the Ali is two years which may be the equal or more than of Ayesha’s. May be Ali can represent better than Ayesha. According to the HR manager department members can’t accept Ayesha of higher position than how department members can give good result under the supervision of Ayesha. I think the decision was fair.
If we see on the other hand employees are the asset of the company/institution, management should motivate and support Ayesha for higher education because she is experience, supportive and hardworking individual. And for next time it may stand with Ali on the same job.

in my point of view after discussing HR manager The decision was fair.

i have qualification but no more exp so in my every interview experienced person success due to experience so experience is important and then study

koi to solution share kr do plz

yaha koi be ni hai jo kara sara selfish hai

in my opinion that the decision wasn't fair because if any person do his/her job with honesty and give 100% to the job so it should get some reward to him/her in any shape like promotion, bonus etc. The reason giving here about gender so its i think criminal activity to neglect some one for it gender, color, mother tongue etc. HR should always keep eye on the performance of team members. Education is important to do any job but experience is most important to any job in the right way, so Ayesha has experience and she is also hard working that's why promotion is her right the decision was wrong and the reason is pathetic.

Please Discuss here about this GDB.Thanks
