I will suggest the CEO that:



One way for a firm to gain a competitive advantage is to maintain low
costs and a strong cash flow. innovative reward strategies to control labor
costs can help the organization grow. It is now globally accepted phenomenon
that skilled Employees are necessary to Increase Productivity but here is
another case of peak and off season



better employee selection so that workers are more likely to stay with
the company



training employees to make them more efficient and productive attaining
harmonious labor relations



effectively managing health and safety issues in the workplace



He or she must Offer the career opportunities to his employee as
compensation



He or she must offer the some incentives like Health caring Facilities
to skilled employees

Mr. Ahmed is CEO of a company which produces soft-drink and fruit juices.
The peak season of business is summer. The market of cold drinks always drops
down in winter due to rise in demand of hot drinks like coffee and tea etc. In the
coming off-season, surplus of almost fifty production-line employees is
expected. These employees are highly trained and expert in their jobs. The
problem faced by CEO is to bear additional cost of retaining same employees
throughout the year but if laid off, it will be difficult to get them back as
they might be hired by the competitors. Thus, it is also costly to replace
them.



Requirement: You are required to suggest solutions
to the CEO for this anticipated staffing dilemma. What ideas can you give to
ensure that the services of skilled employees are available when needed?



 



If the CEO drops his skilled and expert employees, for the time being he
will saves some cost but for the long run, he will have to suffer the downfall
as the competitors will snatch those skilled and expert employees. Some ideas
and solution I would give to Mr. CEO are written as under.




  1. 1. He should introduce such schemes that in the
         peak season, the employee should be paid fully, but in the off season, he
         should introduce some benefits and compensations to the employees who are
         the experts or peak seasons, but now a days not on job, so to keep them on
         job, he should allow him benefits along with the allowances in the off
         season period. Tough it will add to the cost but it is better to lose cost
         then to loss the expert and skilled employees.
    2. The second thing is that, the sales and
         revenue generated by the peak seasons should be in some proportion
         reserved for this purpose
    3. Employees of the peak season should never be
         laid off from their job, as they are not possible to take them back
         because of competitors taking very deep observation of your every deed and
         step. So they would hire them in no time
    4. In the off season, the surplus should
         be kept reserve to meet these kinds of circumstances.
    5. He has another idea to save his skilled
         employees and that is to assign different jobs to the same experts in the
         off season of any product and the peak season of some product. For
         instance, here are three employees, who are the expertise of winter
         season, who manufactures soups and hot coffees in winter. But in summer
         season, they should not be laid off, rather they should be assign tasks
         regarding the summer season.
    6. The CEO must arrange for such workshops in
         which he should give training to his employees to be multi functional, I-e
         expertise in their peak season, as well as expertise in the off season
         too.
    7. Initial the workshops will cost his but at
         the end; he has many surpluses which he could enjoy.

Once his employees are well trained to be expertise in both time, peak and
off, he does not have to pay them extra allowances, nor he has to lay them off,
nor he have any fear of his competitors taking away his employees.
