The idea behind the concept of benchmarking is to identify if there any weaknesses that need to be resolved or strengths that need to be enhanced. Organizations can improve their efficiency, productivity, and profitability by examining these best and weak practices. Benchmarking is considered to be an effective tool, methodology, and technique to identify best practice information for continuous improvements to gain and maintain a competitive advantage. Organization response towards benchmarking factors has promoted a culture of thinking about quality, assessing one’s performance and taking responsibility for it. For example, some benchmarking factors for an educational institute can be; number of Ph.D. qualified faculty, number of research papers published by faculty members, student and staff satisfaction, the average year of experience per faculty, number of students who got jobs etc.
