Topic: Government role & Conducive environment for SMEs
Objective of GDB
The prime objective of this discussion is to familiarize the students about different policies adopted by government for SMEs and to assess its role in developing SMEs.
After attempting this activity, students will be able to:
SMEs are considered the backbone of a country and they have become a reason of survival for many countries. We had such examples of survival from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Italy, who made tremendous socio economic progress due to fast pace development in SME sector. In Pakistan, the SME sector hasn’t been able to produce the desired result yet, due to many reasons and is still at par.
Government is trying its level best to uplift this sector by introducing many Institutes (Small & Medium Enterprise Development Authority, Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority etc.) and by launching many schemes and programs such as (Youth Investment Promotion Scheme, Benazir Income Support Program, Prime Minister Youth Loan Scheme). Many other processes has also been started like “one window operation” to facilitate entrepreneurs and to fasten the growth process.
However the result of such activities is far behind the expectations. Government is claiming that they had set a reasonable platform and provide the conducive environment for SMEs to develop. However the public doesn’t seem agree with the government stance and the debate is still on forums. The result is the pathetic condition of SMEs and low contribution towards GDP.
Keeping in view the above scenario, you have to satisfy the following requirements
