Question Title The IE Matrix
Question Description

The Concept:

The strategy formulation analytical framework consists of three stages; The Input Stage, The Matching Stage and The decision Stage. The Internal-External (IE) Matrix comes under the matching stage of strategy formulation analytical framework. The Internal-External (IE) Matrix gives different positions to an organization’s various divisions in a nine cell displays that further divided into three major regions like (I, II, or IV) , (III, V, or VII) and (VI, VIII, or IX) with different strategy implications as illustrated in Figure 6-9 in Lesson # 28 / Chapter # 6.

The IE Matrix is based on two key dimensions: the IFE total weighted scores on the x-axis and the EFE total weighted scores on the y-axis. On the x-axis of the IE Matrix, an IFE total weighted score of 1.0 to 1.99 represents a weak internal position; a score of 2.0 to 2.99 is considered average; and a score of 3.0 to 4.0 is strong. Similarly, on the y-axis, an EFE total weighted score of 1.0 to 1.99 is considered low; a score of 2.0 to 2.99 is medium; and a score of 3.0 to 4.0 is high.

The below table is showing that an organization is composed of three (3) divisions with all other necessary details like sales, profits and IFE &EFE scores of each division.

  • We calculated IFE matrix for a company on the IFE matrix page. The total weighted score calculated on this page is 3.2 which points at a company with an above average Internal Strength.

  • We calculated EFE matrix for the same company on the EFE matrix page. The total weighted score calculated for EFE matrix 1.7 which suggests a less than average ability to respond to external factors.
