KN Foods (KNF) is working in the business of fast food for the last twelve years. They have franchises in all the big cities. Because of the severe competition in the fast food industry they have diversified their investments towards production sector. They have decided to establish a textile mill for which they have acquired a piece of land. As they have given the responsibility of production /operation manager to their most reliable and competent POM Mr. Owais, who is already working as POM in KN Foods.
Working at KN Mills what challenges Mr. Owais will have to face as he has been transferred from a service industry to a production industry.
Do you think that there is any difference of job responsibility of Production/Operation Manager between service industry and production industry?

The output of a service firm, such as consultancy, training or maintenance, for example, is intangible. Manufacturers produce physical goods that customers can see and touch. Service firms do not produce a service unless a customer requires it, although they design and develop the scope and content of services in advance of any orders. Service firms generally produce a service tailored to customers' needs, such as 12 hours of consultancy, plus 14 hours of design and 10 hours of installation. Manufacturers can produce goods without a customer order or forecast of customer demand. However, producing goods that do not meet market needs is a poor strategy
