1) Anticipatory Failure Determination (AFD)

Anticipatory Failure Determination (AFD) method is a relatively new concept as the product design and manufacturing process continues to become more distributed across the globe. The method provides a disciplined process by which users can thoroughly analyze given failure mechanisms, obtain an exhaustive set of potential failure ‘scenarios’, develop ‘inventive’ solutions to prevent, counteract, or minimize the impact of the failure scenarios. The method focuses on deliberately creating failures that may or may not exist in the current environment. The method is based on TRIZ methodology (“Theory of the Solution of Inventive Problems”). The key benefit of this approach is the process of deliberately ‘inventing’ failures, thereby providing the ability to predict the future failures that do not yet exist.
