Learning objective:
 To enable students understand the personality characteristics of consumers as well as
Learning outcome:
 After attempting this activity, students will be able to understand the personality
characteristics of consumers and will learn how they can be associated with brands to
create brand personality.
Products and services help consumers to show their personality. A specific image that a
brand/product holds is called brand personality which is a combination of human traits that
become associated with the brand. Consumers always choose the products which suit to their
personality. For example, adventure lovers usually buy sports cars whereas, people who are more
concerned with safety and family buy sedan cars. On contrary, consumers who want to create an
impression, though fake, that they are confident may buy fast cars.
The Case:
The Land Cruiser is a series of vehicles produced by Japanese car manufacturing company
Toyota. The Land Cruiser is the longest series of cars of Toyota Company. The first generation
of the Land Cruiser (a jeep like vehicle) was manufactured in 1951. The later versions of the
Land Cruiser include the hardtop, cab chassis, convertible and station wagon. It gained huge
popularity because of its reliability and longevity. It has become even more popular in Australia
where it was best suited to the toughest operating environments. Due to its reliability and
durability, the Land Cruiser has also become popular among the military in war-torn regions.
Both off-road oriented models and comfort oriented models are being offered by Toyota in the
Land Cruiser.
1. If the Land Cruiser was a person, describe that person in terms of personality
characteristics. (any five- 5 marks)
2. If the Land Cruiser was a sports figure, which sports figure would it be, and why? (2
marks +3 marks)
