Discussion Objective
To develop the understanding that how business organizations create international strategic alliances with the other business/ non business organizations around the globe and how these strategic alliances work for these organizations.

Point of discussion
Mitsubishi electric (The home appliances division of Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan) is operating in Pakistan under a strategic alliance with OGC (Orient group of companies). At the same time OGC also has its own well established home appliances brand which is ORIENT and this brand deals with most of the product categories which are also being marketed by Mitsubishi in Pakistan. The nature of this strategic alliance among both companies is that Mitsubishi has outsourced the sales, distribution, and marketing communication functions to OGC.

Mr. Junaid Naveed (A business consultant) has an opinion that this type of strategic alliance is effective for both the organizations because Mitsubishi has not to indulge itself in the talked about business functions outsourced to OGC, and at the same time OGC has significant earning from this strategic alliance. In his opinion in this way both the business organizations are in a win win situation.

Contrary to this, Mr. Khalid Waseem (A branding consultant) has a view that this type of strategic alliance is not beneficial in terms of branding because it damages the brand equity of both the brands being advertised, distributed, and sold by the same business organization. In his view it is not beneficial because both the organizations are interested in marketing their own products in the market and because the product category is the same; so there exists a direct competition too.
