Check the validity of Rolle’s Theorem for   on the interval [2, 10].

Solution:

Part (a)

f(x) = 1+(x-2)1/3___(equation  1)

Put x=2 in equation (1)

f(2) = 1+(2-2)1/3

f(2) = 1+(0)1/3

f(2) = 1

and

f(x) = 1+(x-2)1/3___(equation  2)

Put x=10 in equation (2)

f(10) =1+(10-2)1/3

f(10) = 1+(10-2)1/3

f(10) = 1+(23)1/3

f(10) = 1+(2)1

f(10) = 1+2

f(10) = 3

As f(2) f(10), thus the given function is not continuous.
