Determine if {v1, v2, v3} is a basis for R3.
Solution Since there are exactly three vectors here in R3, we can use one of any methods to determine whether they are basis for 3or not. For this, let solve with help of matrices. First form a matrix of vectors i.e. matrix A = [v1 v2 v3]. If this matrix is invertible (i.e. |A| ≠ 0 determinant should be non zero).
For instance, a simple computation shows that det A = 6 ≠ 0. Thus A is invertible. As in example 3, the columns of A form a basis for R3.
