It has also been regarded as the most affective and favorable form of government which requires active participation of the people in the decision making process. 1> This is what Democracy is all about but it is not in the purest of its form at this moment. A huge total of 167 countries in the world are running under the form of Government which is called Democracy and Pakistan is one of those countries. Different types of democracies prevail in Pakistan at different times. The constitution of Pakistan is now a backing a Parliamentary form of Government but in the previous constitutions like 1962 and 1956, we had Presidential form of Government.
According to Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Quaid-e-Azam,
“Pakistan is made for the betterment of the people living in it. People will themselves select their Leader and it’s the responsibility of the Leader to fulfill the needs of the people and work day and night for this Motherland.”

2> In the year 1947, India was partitioned and a new nation was formed namely, Pakistan, The western part is called West Pakistan , and the Eastern part is called East Pakistan. The language is the main problem between the two Pakistan’s, since the east Pakistan people speaks Bengali and the Westside speaks Punjabi, Sindhi, and Pashtu languages. West Pakistan try to dominate the East Pakistan , which the easterners refused. Another fact is during a parliament election Mr. Mujibur Rehman, a candidate from East Pakistan won. He was to be elected as prime minister. but the West Pakistan side politicians does not agree. Hence the Easterners protested for a separate nation, and India helped them , and the East Pakistan becomes a new nation called Bangladesh.

Idea question#1:

The factors affecting a country’s prospects for democratic maturation may be internal or external.  It is important to note that many of the variables discussed below act as proverbial double-edged swords – alone they can each promote, retard, or obstruct democratization, depending on how, when, and where they play out.  Moreover, each factor affects another in a complicated algorithm that often defies replication.  This underscores the difficulty of assembling a formula that will ensure movement toward truedemocracy.  One thing nearly all experts agree on is the case-sensitive nature of democratization – the process will be unique in every country, and it is not a foregone conclusion that democracy will be achieved everywhere.

Internal Factors

  • The Economy
  • The Structure, Strength, and Transparency of Government Institutions
  • The Electorate
  • Civil Society
  • The Press
  • Demography
  • Geography

External Factors

  • Democracy Promotion by Other Nations
  • Democracy Promotion by Regional and International Organizations
  • Global Markets and International Finance Mechanisms
  • The Influence of Non-Democratic Nations

QUESTION: 1

ANS:

The five most affective remedies for the smooth functioning of democracy in Pakistan are,

  1. There should be a free and transparent election system in the country.
  2. Most of our political leaders are corrupted. They have no loyalty with the country. They never tried their best for the democracy in the country. Their mission is to make assets in the foreign countries and to provide best education to their children in the foreign countries. If such leaders become serious with our country then Inshallah everybody in this country will see the fruit of democracy.
  3. Most of our national leaders are not well educated. For the democracy in any country there well educated leaders and public are necessary. So educated leaders can only bring changes in the country.
  4. In our country the political system is shifting b/w some strong hands even if they did none for our country. So our people should only select such leaders which are sincere with the country and not those who are coming from the few decades.
  5. We should also take some economic steps for making the system clear and for bringing changes in the country for democracy.

  2.  Sheikh mujib-u-rehman won the election but the West Pakistan political leaders did not agree to make him the prime minister due to which the people in the East Pakistan start struggle for a separate country.
  3. The wealth and recourses of each country should be spend equally on every part of the state but unfortunate the West Pakistan did not give equal parts in all shares to the west Pakistan due to which the leaders of east Pakistan were not happy from the behavior of the leaders of west Pakistan.
  4. The geographical boundaries of the country were not also supporting to rule smoothly on both parts of the country i.e. West and East Pakistan.
